hydrogen is not a practical energy source. it takes more energy to actually release hydrogen from it's chemical bonds and use it as fuel than the fuel actually produces. maybe it would work in space, but currently on earth it's unfeasible.

I don't think the problem is the Depletion of Oil, just the drop in it's production.

Like you said, it's hard to dry up an oil well, but at the same time, they're now forced to pump in water to make the oil rise.

If there wasn't a shortage, why would they need to do that?

We don't just use oil as fuel, petroleum is also used to make plastic.

my point was on fossil feuls in general being the big problem...

and hydrogen cars are ALREADY AVAILABLE in germany where they already got a few pumps...

these stations separate the hydrogen and oxygen from water and pump it into your ride.

and other designs are in the works where you just pour water into your tank.

as far as scotty's comment about petroleum...

dude... a few months ago it was discovered that plastics made from fossil feuls are highly toxic and are now in our drinking water and OUR BODIES.

99.9% of the plastic out there is poisoning us.

but there is natural alternatives that we can use to make non toxic plastics...

unfortunately at 3 times the cost for now :0(

anyway... if you really think we need this shit in order to SURVIVE as a race (ie. not just make nintendo game cubes) you are part of the problem and not contributing to the solution.

FOSSIL FUELS ARE FUCKING BAD FOR US!!!

hydrogen cars are not available anywhere yet, and there are no commercial hydrogen filling stations in germany.

BMW has a small number of hydrogen powered cars in house, but they are not for sale.

"The company already has a small fleet of 15 Series 7 sedans that run on hydrogen but have back-up gasoline engines because no fueling stations now exist."

i just saw a show on it on discovery...

there is now 4 stations in germany.

the bmw fleet are the ones i was refering to.

and according to discovery channel and bmw...

there are 4 hydrogen feul station throughout germany that are being used to test the rides.

they even showed one of the cars being filled up at the station.

it looked crazy!!

and your right... you can't buy em yet... still in test phases...

but they DO exist.

not that it matters...

cuz we are still ALL GUNNA DIE!!

so do all you can and blame america!!

ok.. tar sands.. and/or removing the last drops of oil from a well by adding water.... its not the fact of separating the water from the oil thats the problem... its the refuse water...
that water has tiny, tiny little parts of (let's just say) sand in it... and is horrendously fatal if consumed by any living creatures... (the tinyness of the particles will actually destroy our insides... and having that "sand" settle in the water in order to be able to put that water back into the environment takes 20 years at the minimum (with current chemical catalysts)... so having storage facilities that are able to hold as much contaminated water as oil we produce is very , very costly.. especially if we have to sotre taht water for 20 years....

also, that stat about the well "drying out" and us "running out" of oil is also untrue... like someone said.. (sorry i dont feel like scrolling up and checking who it was, but i will waste time writing this whole side note about it) the earth's core creates enough pressure and waht not to produce more oil naturally... not only organic matter from prehistoric time can turn into oil you know....

anyhoo.... also dihydrogen is called hydrogen gas... or hydrogen for short.... putz
all this said, i agree that we have a problem here.. even if the earth does naturally produce oil, we are certainly using it up faster that we can get it...
\but i wouldn't worry about it so much.. wth all the fuss being made about it nowadays, there will be a solution soon... i mean look at any other huge social problem we've had over the years.. we may not notice it, but all these goverment ad campaigns to change us work in the long run....
well ive overstayed my welcome so good night

Oh sure, if you put it that way, we won't be running out of oil. But you know what? It took millions of years, MILLIONS, to produce all that oil, all that oil in which we almost used for just 100 years. But yes, we can wait many years more for oil to be produce, but what the fuck do we do in the meantime?

either way, we aren't going to have it as good as we use to, no matter how many different methods we come up with, its not going to be the same.

ive been aware of this stuff for a while. one of my middle-term life goals is to buy as much far countryside land as possible, build a very durable house on it with a massive library and non-perishable food stores as well as preferavly fertile land nearby and some greenhouses and renewable energy generation facilities (windmill generators, solar panels, whatever else tech industry comes up with by then). best case scenario, its gonna be a great retreat. worst case, it may make life ALOT easier for me and mine.
