it's a fair answer... you chose to be insulted by it instead of taking the time to understand what he's saying. If you chose to go with low quality, it WILL translate on big sound. You will get limited bandwith and once there is a switch there will be a noticeable difference. Anyone who has half an ear will know exactly why that "noticeable difference" happened and you'll look like a toy. He didn't say, "you are a toy" from the start, he said, if you chose to compromise quality, you will look like a toy.

it's a fair answer, you mistook it as an insult and you, sir, are the dick in this discussion. Shame on you.

by the way, if you think jbl is good sound quality, don't trust your ears... your ears are shit

A client just sent me a msg to hold off from printing his flyer beccause his venue "caught on fire"... 9 st-catherine E which is, if I'm not mistaken, the venue where limouzine magazine was held

no sign of it in the news yet... dunno if it's criminal but considering the location and nature of the venue, I'm assuming it is.

looked like a FUCKING good time tho!!

it's planned well enough so that it goes from, "fuckall" to "full-on impossible to stop party" in to short a time for the police to even have enough time to react...

Say you give a meeting point to people at 10, people start showing up and as soon as there is a subtancial amount, that group is lead to meeting point B... people keep showing up at A and one there is enough people, they move from point A to point B and the people at point B move to point C... and so on... all the points surround the venue and at 12... everything should be top ready on site, and everyone at all the meeting points move towards the venue. Boom. you got 1000+ people showing up at the same time, in an organized way, through different streets to make sure that nothing gets blocked or too conspicuous... At that point it gets a bit hard for the cops to break that amount of people up... that is if they even need too...

How can they quantify and prove something like that? If that's the case they'd have to shut down every club/bar/afterhours in Montreal.

All you have to do is walk into court and ask them what the specific numeric pressure and vibration amplitude limits are; or at what specific pascal level is sound to be considered escaping the walls. When they look around like the idiots they all are and tell you that those numbers don't exist (because there pretty much impossible to consistently calculate due to ambient noise) you basically won your case.

Police showed up at my place while I was working on a tune... on a week day at 3... in the afternoon!!!!!!! I asked what was a respectable, legal level at which I could make music and what time. They said people can make sound complaints at any time of the day and the good judgement of the officer on site determines if the level is acceptable... and if you can get fined on the spot.

Basically, my bullshit bs neighbor piece of fucking shit can call the cops anytime he pleases as long as he can faintly hear any music coming out of my apartment at any time of day because it disturbs his peace while he's watching reruns of some bullshit soap opera sitting on his fat bs ass instead of looking for a god damned job... motherfucker shit fuck

So, why target music? What's the hidden agenda? And what can we do to express our discontent with absurd new laws, prohibiting us from listening to what we love instead of dealing with the cacophony of the Big City?

If I had the money, I'd place several loud sound-systems in various buildings, and lock 'em up good, just see the cops frustrate themselves to locate and shutdown the 'noise' ...

Maybe a sort of Montreal Noise Day, when everyone jacks up the volume on any speaker they own, in protest...

Maybe most of Montreal wants to become a calm pussified quiet shadow of itself, instead of the bustling nightlife-embracing city it's always been known and loved for. Somehow I think it's just the inlfux of snobby jerks buying condos in the middle of downtown, who think they can somehow live 'the quiet life', to the detriment and freedom of the rest of the city.

Some facts and statements I picked out of another thread, from Melodrastik:
''Par exemple, dans le cas d'un concert extérieur, le niveau sonore ne devra pas dépasser 80 décibels à 35 mètres de la scène ...
Un établissement qui laisse entendre de la musique hors de ses murs s'expose à des amendes allant de 1000 à 12 000$ ...
La chasse au bruit tant qu'à moi est devenue comme une chasse aux sorcières au détriment des artistes et ainsi remplir les poches des Gourvernement ... ''

They're supposed to be running a major North-American City, not a motherfucking library!

Let's setup a massive sound system on the roof of a building with loud ass city sounds playing on em'...

This week, we celebrate our three year anniversary by killing the night... literally! It seems ironic to combine an anniversary and a funeral, and it also seems ironic to stop a weekly dubstep-based night when the style has gotten to be one of the most important electronic musical genres in the city but in a way, it is what makes sense to us.

Three years ago, a dj/producer known as Intoccabile started a night called forward with the promise of offering a weekly rendez-vous for amateurs of dubstep, grime in combination with a whole myriad of other underground electronic music styles. I volunteered to help with promotion but ended up a resident dj and eventually organizing the whole night with Rhys Taylor and Gabee when Intoccabile decided to move on.

We had a mission to help the dubstep scene branch out to other music styles and create a united bass community. Looking back, three years ago at what the dubstep scene was before we started and what it is now, I think we can say that the mission is accomplished. It went from monthly events where 50 people was an amazing turn-out to huge venues packed with wild crowds dancing to some of the biggest names in the game.

I feel that forward is no longer an event that fills a gap. There is a great number of quality events to attend for the bass hungry fanatic. There is work that needs to be done outside of the clubs that will make push Montreal's sound forward. The time has come to move on to other projects for me.

Nevertheless, this IS a celebration and I wanna see all of Montreal on it's baddest behavior. It was hard but we've selected an all star line-up that truly represents what a classic forward night is all about! Mad fun and great diversity.

Vilify

Montreal’s VILIFY has taken her city’s electronic music scene by storm.
Founder and resident DJ of the popular ‘Bass Drive Wednesdays’ in Montreal, her night pushes the hardest and darkest Dubstep, DNB, Jungle and more.
She has built up an enviable reputation with her signature terror-dubstep, versatility over the entire DNB spectrum & whatever else she feels like (raggacore, breakcore, metal, hip hop, jazz)
Appearing alongside the likes of Goldie[UK] Skream [UK] Benga [UK] Rusko [UK] Dieselboy [US] (X3) Borgore [IS] (X2) Bassnectar [CAN] Joe Nice[US] Excision[CAN] Datsik[CAN] Starkey[US] BAR9 [UK] and many more, finalist at the 2007 Halifax DJ Olympics and having played all across the country; Vilify has proven that she can keep up with the big boys of bass.

Watch out for this pretty little thing, her dirty beats will destroy your soles.

Maysr
[ soundcloud.com ]

Born and raised in N.D.G. and area rich in culture in the heart of Montreal Canada, Maysr bought his first set of Technics 1200s and a mixer in 1994. At the time, his passion for both hip hop and dancehall culture was in full bloom so his musical selection was only natural.

Fast forward to the present, Maysr has made his mark in Montreal as a top notch selector specializing i...n all forms of jamaican music but can still throw down a dirty hip hop set if need be and can easily adapt to a crowd in order to keep the dance floor packed. As far as reggae is concerned Maysr is known as a juggling selector but he has a heavy arsenal of dubplates that would make some clash selectors jaws drop.

When you see his name on a flyer, you know he's guaranteed to mash up the dance!

Dialect

Straight outta the northern lands of Deux-Montagnes...
Initially influenced by hip hop acts such as KRS One, Native Tongues, Gangstarr, Jeru tha damaja., He began to pursue a hip hop scratch dj status in 97. With the newer generation of "Shit-Hop" emerging from numerous hip hop labels, he became frustrated, fed up, and discontinued purchasing hip hop vinyls altogether.

Still producing hip hop instrumentals, and working with local MC's, Dj Dialect was still unsatisfied with the current "scene" until his first visit to the afterhours. An easy convert to the Break Beat sound, Dialect blends the precision skills of turntablism with an ear for the underground electronic music community. Dialect can be heard spinnin' "erectro, real skool breaks, dirty disco, whore-house, fist funk and more.

+ FORWARD RESIDENTS:

Rhys Taylor, a nightlife legend who has been playing alongside big names of the international electronic music scene in Montreal for almost 10 years now. Holding down "Your Radio is Broken" on CKUT for the past 5 years, throwing Mix Thursdays for almost 3 years, a residency at Blue Dog, Saphir and then Blizzarts with Broken Crew and bringing breaks to Stereo are a few of his accomplishments.

David Rawalia aka Wally, a dj who has been mastering his craft since 2003 and more recently producing his own unique sounds. After promoting rave culture and sound and organizing a multitude of one-off all-nighters, he moved on to the dubstep scene taking full-part in the forward weekly as well as working with the half electronic half band hybrid, RISK.

I feel the promoter should make sure that the dj plays the system at a respectable level (that is, if no sound tech is present). Djs will get pressured by drunk deaf fan boys to push the volume beyond acceptable levels and, very often, from the booth, there is no way to tell how loud it really is on the dancefloor. As a promoter, I regularly check on sound to make sure the level is acceptable and adjust accordingly... if a dj keeps turning the volume up after I turned it down and explained why I turned it down, I turn down the amps and let the dj live with compressed, squashed, shit sound... too bad so sad.
