Besides 3 Inches What Is The Difference???

I need new speakers for the mountain...

Are 12 inch speakers enough...

!!! JBL PRX612M vs PRX615M !!!

The difference in price is only 100$

Is it better to get the 15" and just use an equalizer to lower the bass...

Bigger is better for the bass (cleaner sound, higher range of frequencies), but for all frequencies then you're better off with a 12" (unless you have several speakers, including smaller ones).

QF(mf)T

No sub(s), get the 15'
With sub(s) get the 12'

!5' got a better bass response of course, but 12' got thighter and more consistent low mid/mid response.

Come-on....Take a look at semi-serious gears...Leave the JBL PRX serie and take a look at QSC K serie...Way better. Go to take a look at QSC K-12 in music store, way more output and low-end extension than any JBL 15'' stuff. And they are not built in china! Or try some un-powered stuff, lot of great speaker that cost not much more than powered one with an external amplifier!

QSC K12 seems to be made in china... Here is a picture of the back of the speaker. I'm sure the QSC are good speakers all the reviews say so but people like the PRX series also.

As for getting not powered speakers and an amp, it's just more work but I'm sure it's more professional. Maybe my next set of speakers will be like this.

I'm sorry to see that QSC have move to china stuff...But at least, as for now, they dont sound like chinees stuff! Are you sure that powered speakers are less work than passive speakers? You have to feed line and AC for each speaker, then find wich one a causing ground loop, adjusting level on each one, then after event, roll twice the number of cable. I dont think that is easyer and faster to use powered speakers....My opinion!

fred i say amen to that... but... for moving around passive speakers ... its way more trouble... and for the qsc...ok..im in love with qsc since i heard them but they lack a bit of bass...like alot of bass... you have to put them with a sub to make sure ur sound is at its full capacity... for what noah wants to do.. hes better off with the prx..

Hum....Are you sure that we talk about the same QSC and PRX speaker? The QSC have a more natural bass, lot better than the ''resonating'' bass of PRX. Try it in big environement, they provide better ''throw'' than PRX and much more bass output...Maybe in a closest position, PRX seem to have more bass...? Something to check!

I don't like blowing people's ear drums at my events. My goal is not to play the speakers at their maximum volume and spl. If Andromeda was any indication your outdoor speakers which are great for outdoor long throw events are not the best type of speakers for indoor locations. My goal is to have a reasonable but loud volume but allowing at the same time people to hear one another if they want to socialize. A lot of time with you guys and solotech I find I can not hear people who are screaming to me and people can't hear me when I'm screaming at them. This is a problem. The front throw speakers are more designed for this and even then never at full volume or ear crushing volume. Fact is there are millions of opinions and everyone likes something different. The PRX series are good enough for me. I do know there a lots of choices but I'm not sure one is really better then the other as long as people have fun and no one gets bleeding ears a party can be just as successful with either type of speakers.

Long trow speaker will fill in a better way any room...Less SPL in front, more in the end of the room...That's purpose of a horn, to do a better coupling between the speaker and the air. And they give direction to the sound. On other side, they can be bloody loud if promoter and DJ did'nt care about peoples ears....Like you said, it's always better to run a system at lower capacity, that give headroom, but try to tell a DJ to dont reach the red light! They should do an upgrade kit for DJM with all red led!

I feel the promoter should make sure that the dj plays the system at a respectable level (that is, if no sound tech is present). Djs will get pressured by drunk deaf fan boys to push the volume beyond acceptable levels and, very often, from the booth, there is no way to tell how loud it really is on the dancefloor. As a promoter, I regularly check on sound to make sure the level is acceptable and adjust accordingly... if a dj keeps turning the volume up after I turned it down and explained why I turned it down, I turn down the amps and let the dj live with compressed, squashed, shit sound... too bad so sad.
