Yup.

Look at the attitude here. How about saying the scene IS IN NEED OF IMPROVEMENT instead of calling it DEAD?

Give some people with ambition a reason to put work and ideas into revitalizing the scene, instead of giving them the vibe that they're "wasting their time".

Accept the fact that things will change, and look for ways to make something great come out of these changes. Use the problems as opportunities to find solutions and make new heroes in the process. And don't diss the noobs, they're the ones who are going to pick up the energy and improve the scene, not the jaded stay-at-homes who don't care anymore.

^^^ excellent post.

alot of you old zkoolerz are jaded...:(
but the question is;

can you go beyond being a old skooler, and become a lifer?

---i think the past, well my time anyway, was better, cuz the scene was just a baby and we were the first generation of raver kids..everything was so new that the word plur, candy kid, old skooler n jaded wasn't even conceived yet. Since they weren't any JADED peeps, there weren't any negativity going around...

anyway i reiterate my previous post.

I don't derive enjoyment from parties anymore. It used to be that i could go into a party ( for example : birth of a fairy, a most amazing party) and just have some fun, meet interesting people, etc etc etc.

Now, i feel isolated every single time i go to a party. To be honest, people at parties nowadays are frikking downright hostile , and the borderline psychotic biker fucks peddling dope is not helping.

Now, i don't give a shit about drugs, i don't use em myself, but ever since "the rise of meth" came to bear, it is true that people are defensive, closed and cliqued massively.

I wish i could give back to the community, but i'm frikking broke right now : i got for another 6 months before i can say i'm debt free. And then, i don't think I have the know-how, the connections, the contacts to succesfully organise a party, especially considering that I'm pretty much out of the montreal raving scene now.

So what's a guy for me to do? tell the facts straight.

I don't think the rave scene is dead, just a lot of people's braincells and serotonin supply.

Maybe we should stay home? But I can say for myself I rather party. Maybe some of us have no method of returning the favour like some some promoters or dj's or even artist who design the enviroments we escape into. But what about the typical "party-goer", all he can do is buy a ticket and have as much fun as he/she can possibly can. Thing is though, this all to mentioned Jaded aspect of the scene; makes the typical raver(or whatever) feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, why the fuck should we continue partying if it's just going to be bad vibes?
Point is, everyone likes this lifestyle. And sorry to say, just becuase there's a massive scene in Montreal, with parties Bangin' every week, doesn't mean these parties are any good. And honestly I believe that a line of K or Coke is going to make things any better.
However, knowing Steve (the way I think I know Steve) he's just being sarcastic...

many say that the past is the past and that we should leave it at that. lets make things simple. if it werent for the past, there would be no future. from our experiences we learn, from our mistakes we learn, and from our acheivements we learn. therefore bringing up the past makes a lot of sense.

the main question of this thread...was what u dislike about the scene, what has made partys so repetitive, what would u like and prefer to experience at a party. very few failed to understand the purpose of these questions. of course the scene isnt dead...i mean i still party practically every week end...but how could we make it better? what is lacking?

an intelligent discussion means...bringing relevant points and arguments, pertaning to the subject at hand. personal vendetas, e-drama for example...is useless...as well as ppl bringin bad vibes...i agree with mico!

from what i know about this scene

it's STUCK in the past

but there is more than one past

everyone has their golden age of rave

instead of trying to live up to old standards, make new ones...

i think there is so much good that is still in this scene, but it's hidden, and to me, it almost seems to be on purpose, and i honestly wish that i could go out and party every weekend, but theres just not enough diversity, everyone is doing there own thing and sticking to it

people just seemed to have turned off their brains, they just do the same thing over and over again, and then wonder why it doesn't feel the same after a while

from what i know about from working with Kirk 6 (which have been some of the greatest times i've had) is that it's not hard to have a possitive party, which means a party enjoyed by all, it just takes the proper direction of effort and good energy. the more people cooporate with each other, the better things get done. "good vibes" comes from every aspect of the scene, from location, to design, to production, to the people...if enough effort is put into it, then everything will work together.

and...whatever i'll finish my rant

1 thing ... just be creative ... try some other things ... try some other style of flyer .... other than the square ones .... the publicity is everything .... the underground scene is dead ... but we have a substitute ... promotor dream to become commercial

the rave scene is just reflecting society, so whatever the rave scene is going through the world is also going through. As the our time on the planet comes close to it's end, as do the parties. Of course that doesn't mean raves have to end, they just need to continue the evolution to live out the last of 'em.

Take this week-end for example.

some guys convince the 1619 ppl to do a 4 loft party.

Now imagine if they'd ask other prod cies to help them out do a party there.
Imagine everybody getting a decent, but not pricey headliner for each room.

or better... imagine if it's one doode who has enough cash to hire prod cies to run each room, that way noone bitches about $$$.

Instead, all that happened was local DJs bringing their entourage... prolly on guest lists.

big up 2k4 for the trust you got going between prods. This is your year. All you need is a proper DnB head to work that thang out. *Huge Grin*

man, you guys think you're hurting, you should see Ottawa.

we went from having 700+ people at our parties back in the day, to maxing out at 300.

A Rave Bylaw has made it IMPOSSIBLE to throw a rave within city limits.

but, beyond all this, there is a light. In the last few months, I've seen an insurgence of new faces, and this gives me hope. I've been doin the "Rave" thing on and off since 1996, when i was 14. I'm 22 now. I've seen this scene go from underground, and sketchy, to mainstream, and polished, and then to passe, and tired.

The new kids may not have the same vision as we did a couple years ago, and their needs may have changed, but the evolution shows that the Rave scene goes beyond a fad. A fad is uncapable of change, and burns itself out by staying exactly the same. If parties are capable of change, and the music as well, then the scene should be ok in the long run.

He's right.

If there's no new people, the rave scene will never maintain itself, and ideals will never evolve.
