one i don't see that many peeps wearing fun fur...shit when i frist started raving i was shocked when i saw them.Furry cloth + high on drugs + Heat = ewww!!!
Yes raving as become a trend because it is a sub culture of socity....example bike courier grneraly dress the same, but with thier own stlye.
With the limited location the promotors have now compaired to 4 or 5 yerars ago...that was interesting @ times:)
Lets face it back then & now people will awalys do drugs( more of them present now)

Rave scene could be compaired to living creature since it does have its growth time...just like every musically inspired subculture to modren man.

Okay time shut down the.......

one big change that has occurred in the past few years in montreal (from what i've been told) is the difficulty in finding and securing suitable venues. because of the negative publicity concerning raves, its become harder and more risky to throw a real underground party.

that said, i think the difference between an underground and a commercial rave has much more to do with the way its promoted (and thus the type of crowd that shows up) then how "underground" the location is.

finally, if you enter the scene because of the drugs, you will leave the scene because of the drugs.

...from a promotor stand point, I would just like to correct a very current misconception, it is not harder to get suitable venues. Many think that, and it's a great excuse for promotors to be lazy, but not all of them are.

To find a suitable venue, takes time & more often then not a mode of transportation to scout with. Trust me, there are tons of "suitable" venues in this city, but if a promotor wants to settle with an old, already used venue, they can, it's their choice///

PS- Hey Naw, one of the reasons I talk about the "oldskool" dayz a lot is cause to me, scene wise, it's kindof like my hometown would be, ya know, it's where I'm from, and even though I'm looking ahead, and most definately living in the "now", I can't help but think/talk about my home town from time to time, and I don't think that's sucha bad thing.

Ufot-apathy, and almost lost cause Tv was so "entertaining"...

not to sound like a jerk off or any thing but rather then talk about things why not do it... you miss your home town go back there...I understand where your comming from mtl is my hometown and 10 years ago i took off lived in a number of different cities spend 7 of the years in toronto and in many ways I miss toronto a lot the scene there is very different and more accepting of what i do then here in mtl how ever I try very hard not to think about how much better things were but rather about how much better I can make things here and now... Im in mtl my life for the time being is in mtl I try not to think about how good things were in tdot but focus on tring to make things as good as possible here in mtl. help bring that vibe here to this city educate people to the vibe of other places....
throw the parties I threw in tdot and in san fran here in mtl get the mtl people into the digital robo minimal funk... show the rest of the world that mtl can have that same vibe that i saw in other cities... get where Im comming from now remember one important thing talk minus action equal zero... :)

there is no doubt that venues are harder to find now then b4, even 15 months ago there were more spots available...its not a matter of lazyness or anything just a plain FACT

not that i know much about it but i agree very much with the "if you got into the scene cuz of drugs you ll leave cuz of drugs" - those who will stay true are usually more into the music/vibe then anything else (i would hope)

Ufot-keeping secrets...

what does a link to your prod companies website have to do with venues...
so youve thrown parties ok thats cool but you posted it like it was a resource for venues in the city... lets face it its costly to throw parties in this city more so them any other city Ive lived in befor... Im not interested in paying a rental fee to get some space...
I want to get a venue where the owner takes the bar and i take the door and its even end of story...fuck all this pay to play bs in this city ...
as far as I can see the best deal going in mtl is at the casa or sala spaces the casa is small but free and comes equiped and the sala is larger coems equiped and is about 300 for a sat night...
the bad thing is you have to close up by 3am which in many ways is cool be me who really wants to stay up all night at my age any how (Im turning 36 on dec 31st)

I've had a nice all night venue for free.

and this other one too... but they haven't called me back yet. I'm never home and don't have an answering machine though.

It's all about the crack houses in St-Henri.

As you may see, I'm from Winnipeg, so our scene compared to yours may be different but maybe the same.

I started going to parties 5 years ago, went for 3.5 years and I had to stop due to drug problems.
My first party was a free party ontop of a hill overlooking downtown. I never saw something so neat in my life. It was free because it was being taped for a movie, "Hey Happy" (some of you may have seen it, someone messaged me one saying they did). I went sober, not expecting anything and I was in complete awe. I loved it. So I went to another, and had an even better time. So I went again and again and again.

I got scared at a party when a 14yr old girl told me she was on 2 hits of acid and xtc. I thought to myself, what the fuck has this become?
How do these children even know about this? How did they get in this venue when it's apparently 18+? My second party I watched a person almost seizure to death on the floor.

I don't think there's a chance in hell that it will go back underground unless we all grow up to be 40 years old, and after the "fad" had ended, we start it up again, from the beginning. When tickets were $2 to %5, not this $50 to see your favorite DJ. I saw my favorite DJ for free.
It can't go back to the way it was, once one person goes, they will tell another, and another, until they tell people that don't even know what downtempo, d&b, etc etc is, they just go because it's the "cool" thing to do. I see 12 yr olds dressed as candy kids and god it makes me sick. I don't even want to get on that subject.

So I haven't been in 2 years. I had to stop because there's people I want to see and people I don't want to see and if I saw them, I don't know how I would react. I thought I was ready to go back but I wasn't. I think I want to keep remembering it how my last party was. I don't want to know what it's like now.

Yea, I guess you can say the rave scene is dead, killed by sketchpads.
When I first started partying, I felt a sense of wonder and magic a sense of blissful escape. When my group of friends suddenly started partying every weekend, I started to get tired of it all- not because that I went so much that I needed somethign else. But because of the discomfort that I felt when I knew all the songs, steps, people( to a certain degree). It lost the thing I thought partying was supposed to represent. Partying to me is to live with something you know, always being able to expect something new; new music, new people, new venues, new conversations, just whatever that I hadn't felt before, even though I kne what to expect. Now I have to say the scene has become overused, and broken down. Perhaps we shouldn't look into the past for solutions, and just live with what we got. But I'm sorry, what we got now sucks ass, and it's good that someone brought this to an open forum. And even though most people seem to be saying the samething (with the wonder, and the magic, and the whatever else of the ol' school, and the old days..), it would seem that going to our roots is our only
solution. Plur, anyone?
Ofcoure I can see it now: Plur!? Yarf! But hey, Is it me, or are those candykids the ones living the scene like were describing it should be. Whatever, I don't think I could go back to running around asking people what their names are, and how many parites they've gone to. I just think that's the scene we grew up with, and the scene that kept us here.
Meh...
