don't be so influencable... trust in yourself, no matter what you say here people will find a way to make fun of you. they are testing if you're strong, if you have confidence, and measuring themself against you.
PLUR is a good subject, if you treat it good. there is no bad subject, only bad writers... ;) so do you want to know what psychedelics mean to us?
I'm feeling psexychedelique right now.. |

y'all know the whole PLUR thing was pretty much just a means to convince the authorities that all these peaceful raver kids had adopted some kind of lifestyle - instead of coming to the conclusion that people had taken drugs that made them all get along while they were high.

i just feel like the whole plur thing is (and really always was) really shallow and also just not very interesting,
it's idealistic, so naturally people like it, they also like it cause it's got a neat little acronym that is easy to say and remember, but i just don't think it's applicable at all, i mean: peace (even amongst those who chose NOT to be peaceful?) love (even for those who don't deserve it?) unity (with everyone? always? even say the 30 year old creepy guy who is trying to fuck the 15 year old high out of her tree on K and mdma?) respect (even for those who clearly don't respect us or anything for that matter) as a philosophy or a world view or an ideology, it's just, well, kinda weak. It doesn't have much to offer us. Worst of all it's just not very potable, what i mean is that it's really tough to take it outside of the rave scene (forget the rave scene, a single rave for that matter). What baffles me is that no one ever really tried to articulate another philosophy for the rave scene in any serious sense, the only other serious contender came from Jungle and DnB kids who for a while had a sort of militant thing going on for a few years. The problem was that although this was interesting they couldn't figure out who or what they were so angry about, beyond vague ideas of 'burning Babylon down'. This has seemed to fade especially with the coming of dubstep, which doesn't have a philosophy at all and never will because it's the music of nihilism (both culturally and stylistically). It really is the music of people who don't believe in anything and don't want to believe in anything. what was and is still fascinating is the lesser known step child of PLUR, that is the notion of 'keeping it real' which i believe could have and still can be the philosophy of the rave scene. If you want to write a project for school on something rave related write it on that.
I'm feeling surly right now.. |

Why is there a need for ideology in music anyway? Can't it just be about rhythm and dancing and having fun and stuff? I first got hooked on the rave movement precisely because I didn't find it as shallow and pedant and elitist as other scenes. Because it was varied, yet people accepted (or at least tolerated) others' differences and didn't judge (at least as much). People were for the most part friendly and open-minded and honest with themselves and others. Drugs obviously helped, but I didn't care. Didn't take that many drugs in parties and almost never IN an actual party, and I much preferred friendly people on e and speed than angry cokeheads or incoherent PCP addicts. I even got to laugh at the acronym too, over the years. But I still feel that globally, the rave scene I've come to love was a globally loving, open-minded, fun thing to be a part of, as an individual who enjoys music and dancing. PLUR might be a weak and flawed analogy, but most ideologies are. Show me an individual or movement who's truly consistent with theirs and I'll accept that humanity's not headed straight for self-destruction.
I'm feeling chaotic! right now.. |

I have found with time that PLUR has the tendency to get in the way of greed and selfishness. And we cant have that.
