They're actually currently working on something similar to help people who are blind because of eye-damage.. as long as the optic nerve is still in good working order, they can send it external signal. THIS, for example. back in 2004 also there was research done and they manage to get a blind person to see 16x16 pixels, so they've obviously gone a long way since then.. If they could get it done like in the William Gibson book, Virtual Light, that would be awesome.. glasses that don't require implanting, they just stimulate the optic nerves directly with magnetic fields, so blind people with working optic nerves can use them to see, and people who's eyes are perfectly fine can use the glasses for Augmented Reality without having to stare at a tiny screen millimeters away from their eyes.. |
