FROM: Gabrielle Korn (gkorn@lemontroyal.qc.ca)

Hello Noah,

As promised, I spoke with a representative from the Réseau des grands parcs de la Ville de Montréal concerning your activity at the gazebo and have the following information to provide to you:

‎- Mount Royal Park is owned and managed by the Ville de Montréal and activities held in the park must receive authorization from the Division des événements publics (DEP).

- On Sundays, two employees from the DEP supervise the tamtam-jam. These employees ensure that people selling items on the site have permits and that park regulations are respected, etc.

- Recently, due to the frequency of events held in both Jeanne-Mance and Mount Royal parks and the impact of these events on the quality of life of the citizens in the vicinity, the city signed an agreement with the citizens that limits all new activities with requests, for instance, for amplification - with some discretion: ex. the Tour de l’Ile (a one-day activity) was tolerated. The tamtam-jam is a recurrent event (precedes this recent agreement) and is also tolerated, but strictly supervised.

- The employees from the DEP can call upon the services of the SPVM for incidents involving nuisances, illicit sales, unauthorized activities or any other breach of park regulations where they require the intervention of the police.

- The event at the gazebo is considered a non-authorized event by the DEP and therefore, the SPVM was called upon to disperse the attendees.

So in other words, we have to have permission, and it can't be every weekend. Once a month would probably be good for the City, or every second week. But to us... well every Sunday is a must.
I'm feeling mischiveous right now..

I think what they really mean is they don't want HUGE SOUND for event... We can't be disturbing the neighbours with out small little speakers. They should be more worried about all those huge stages in Jeanne Mance park with 80 vertec jbl speakers... Not our 2 monitor setup...

Noah, no offense, but I think the city never wanted to deal with this in the first place and they don't give a rat's ass about the events at the gazebo.

And they will use any means necessary to avoid it, I am not sure if they set any parameters in terms of amplification or if it's amplification period. If it's the later, they have every right to stop such recurring events.

It sucks, but that's their stance on it.
I'm feeling so many robots! right now..

If you could broadcast the music pirate radio style with an antenna, peoples could tune in with stereo receivers. No noise, bichin' sound in your earphones. No complaints from the neighbors.

Actually...

I'm with databoy on this one.

If a few people bring boom boxes, we could just broadcast live from the mountain and have the sound come out of our individual boom-box, ipods with amped speakers, and such. All over the place.
