I love 3810 when it's been cleaned like crazy. I think it just need an all new look. Like, a complete overhaul.

- Those white panels on the ceiling of Bain Mathieu that glow in the UV lighting would be wicked. Hiding the pillars would be cool, or transforming them into ornament pieces with something more than the usual webs. You can see them on the ceiling in this photo:

- I was thinking of building those Industrial Design course cardboard chairs. Easy to put together and disassemble like Lego. Have those around the pillars off to the chill-out side and morph the pillars into some sort of "throne" looking chairs.

- I've also got some good projector ideas for the stage if it's ever situated in front of that back-room full of trash again. Pretty much do what big names do at huge events, projector screens behind the DJ, or off to the side(s).

- I also have an old CTV camera that has some good cabling with adapters. I can rig it up to a projector and have it go mobile to broadcast the crowd, the DJ(s) and the decor, then switch back to visualizations.

- Another big ambitious thing would be to find some huge black material covering that we could hide the ceiling with, with cut out holes for the lights in them, and those cool hanging mirrors. UV painted galaxies/planets/black holes on this huge ceiling piece. Would look wicked with Noah's multi-coloured laser(s) I also remember a cool "water" projector from... Mort...? that was off to the left of the DJ stage. That thing was pure sex.

- I am also a fan of the big transformer'esque structure that was hanging up in Bain Mathieu for Lumiere Noir last year. Big pieces like those here and there set off a wicked vibe, like the Prism Code tree that was once behind the couch. Photo here:

- Something cool I found a long time ago and sent to Noah was laser tagging wall. Pretty much grab a big board big enough to do some artistic graffiti on. Paint it with UV paint, then using laser pointers, you draw on this no UV reactive surface and you can graf. It'll stay for a while before disappearing so there's always a clean canvas. We could have a photographer grabbing shots of the graffs, like me when I'm around.

- Some stuff I already have are these packing strips I got from work. They look like streamers, but are more heavy duty and can hold a shape, then be flattened back out. They react to UV light.

- I also have these two UV pods with two layers of black lines. Bottom lines don't rotate, but the top rotates hypnotically slow. Gives off some trippy visuals. Yay Wal Mart back in the day!

- Last thing that I felt like getting pics of are these 4x4 LED cubes I found in liquidation at work. They change colors and patterns, the speeds also vary. Kind of Daft Punk'esque.

I have a lot of ideas, but they're all huge, time-consuming and over-all when completed expensive. Being a pack-rat, I keep my eyes open for cool stuff that I can grab for free from work and other places (never theft though) I'd love to learn from some of the deco artists we have in our community as well. Also wanting to get into making some electronic stuff, such as oscilloscopes [ www.instructables.com ] and 3D LED cubes [ www.instructables.com ]

Annnnnd, I'm spent on writing this up. I'll read this later on when my brain un-melts.
I'm feeling black magik peace right now..

The problem with 3810 isn't how it looks, it's that it's a major health hazard if you spend any amount of time in there.. that was covered pretty extensively in another thread.. The WHOLE place needs to be cleaned by a professional crew and a lot of stuff needs to be stripped/rebuilt..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

well there is no proper source... i think kalan (dj br3ath3) started this rumor... it's dirty and has to be cleaned on many occasions but 'major health hazard' is obviously an overstatement. i have no problems with the place and didn't catch a cold at spore either.

it's an empty room with a ton of garbage behind some curtains which smells bad and people are too lazy to clean up... a room... just like any other room... go for it i already got the fire department to go there and everything was fine... they said the place looks much better then what it looked like the last time they came.

You didn't get that idea of mine down properly. The board would be painted ahead of time, that way it can be brought to raves with the laser pointers for paint/marker-free graffing.

I don't know about health hazard, but after Noah's NYE party, I can say that the place has seen some major improvement in the last few years. I didn't have any problems with the air quality.

I didn't start this rumor but I am an advocate for no longer using this venue for events. Its a well known fact that the wood floor tiles in this industrial space are soaked in creosote as a preservative which has been linked to and is directly responsible for all sorts of major health issues. Not to mention their initial purpose of absorbing the toxic oils and grease spills from the machines that were once used there. Do your homework.

Well damn. But my ideas can work at any other venue with the right implementations.

Well there are no more bricks on the floor... It's a nice floor now and easy to clean... Not to mention you are not eating the bricks you are going to a party there. Anyways for every person who refuses to go to the place, lots more will come...

I just refuse to ever deal with the owner of 3810 ever again. If it comes down to it I'd rather downgrade or cancel the party.

It's a shame, that spot has a lot of good things going for it.
