hmmm... no I dont think it was like that. from what I understood.. when I took Primate Evolution years ago, and from a bunch of other books and articles I've read over my life... the theory went something like this: (apology in advance for the TL/DR)

climate change caused rainforests to retreat. tree-dwelling primates - which subsisted mainly on fruits, insects, the odd lizard, bird eggs - and leafy goodies - were forced out of the retreating forests down onto the ground. some believe this rude transition may have been echoed with the Biblical tale of Adam and Even being cast out of the Garden of Eden

forest gave way to Savannah - vast grasslands populated with herds of ungulates and packs of vicious predators - the ancestors of today's big cats and wolves and hyenas. alone, our early ancestors were very vulnerable to predation and poorly equipped to compete for food.

but when they moved down to the ground... bipedal gait was selected for - being able to stand and get a clear view of predators approaching in the flat grasslands was advantageous. so now that their hands were free.. then an opposing thumb was selected for - and tool use came about. this ability to use tools precipitated a tremendous increase in cranial capacity

so when they moved to standing on two feet, it narrowed the birth canal. meaning that the babies' skulls had to be very small to pass through, and then grow later. so this means a long extended childhood where they are completely dependent on their parents and relatives for many years until they reach maturity. this is known as being "altricial" - and humans are still a prime example of this. a baby antelope - which is "precocial" - can plop out and be up on it's feet and running in no time. but a human baby will rely on others to nurture it for years before it can survive on its own. so a nuclear family group was selected for, and this created deep life-long bonds and co-operative problem solving skills. with this came the ability to transmit acquired knowledge and wisdom of tool use and hunting strategy from one generation to the next - this became the foundation for culture. it is this accrued wisdom and the abilty to co-operate in groups to utilize it that gave hominids a huge evolutionary advantage.

thus this constellation of becoming terrestrial -> bipedal gait -> opposable thumbs -> increased cranial capacity and frontal lobe -> tool use -> inter-generational transmission of culture, and long term co-operative social groups / hunting packs, is what transformed our ancestors from something like this:

->

into something like this early ape ->

and then this -> the first hominid

so it's a lot more complex than being about fighting. indeed one could argue that the ability for females to have sex without going into oestrous was even more crucial to the development of the human species.

Lol It's classic to tell someone to chill and have humor if they don't bend over and accept antagony. It doesn't mean they're humorless or need to relax.

This isn't like walking into a waving fist and getting punched. Vegans are being directly attacked. Countering is totally reasonable. Even if it was someone else who was being put down, I'd still counter it. If you attack vegans then don't whine about it when we defend ourselves.

Not sure meat is necessary... Vitamin and mineral wise, I'd have to look it up. I think the major problem with being vegan or vegetarian is a lack of knowledge, thus the inability of making a balanced meal.

Yeah basically it's only lack of easily obtained knowledge that prevents people from getting everything they need. There are lots of non-animal things that have all essential amino acids, like quinoa, hemp and a lot of other stuff. Scientists have found out recently that for the incomplete sources, we don't even have to eat them at the same time since our bodies can store the nutrients for later to combine them.

Most corn in North America is used to feed livestock.

I never called you Hitler. I was saying that just because some omnis are assholes (like Hitler/Bush etc) doesn't mean that all of them are. Same with vegans. ...and I won't judge other omnis based on *you*, lol! (just to make things square for antagonistic humor)

I don't care if you aren't familiar enough with amino acids to know where to get them in abundance from non-animal sources. Just stop vilifying me.

The entire point of this, for people who don't want to read all of it, is to ask to stop bullying, bashing, or vilifying vegans.

Stop it, please. No more anti-vegan jokes. No more posting shit you think is original/witty/funny for the sole purpose of trying to upset us. No more flat out insults. Please and thank you.
