I agree with the Fact that HHC do not fit really well with psytrance in a line up
and id like to see more breakbeat in rave,i dont know the breakbeat DJ in the scene,i think melo and dialect mix some, buts its not my breakbeat style, i like my breakbeat dark like transverse record, Ayra, xim nbass, audiogore, twisted speakers, the new psybreak wave is awsome

i'll say it again in other words. look at your point of view from the other side. if more dnb/breaks events lasted all night, there would be more younger people to that scene, therefore une relève. and that is the sign of a healthy scene.

Of Course Tech Safari will bring older people with expensive line-up,deco and more mature music ,it's totally different. ANd people who tend to go to their party raves once in a WHILE,they can totally go once every 6 month in a party and not sleep for hours , but this has ,nothing to do compared to the young ravers who go to rave every week-end Girl. I couldn't do that every week end like years ago ,but i could afford going out till 3 am everyweek in bar nights for several hours.

AND once again there's ALL Night breakz/dnb event and NO the crowd isn't younger, DnB and Breakz are old stylez .For the moment young people follow trend and listen to dubstep. If you want to see fresh young 17 girls in all night party ,go to Dubstep parties. Music is a trend like fashion for some people

As for an healthy scene, Club lambi was full last week for Diesel boy and we had more than 100 people at Planet break the same night. Oh and yes this summer the break picnik,we can calculate around 2000-3000 who will come? I think it'S what we can call a healthy scene.

oh and for your information Alienzed, here'S an exemple of a all night dnb / break party :

22:00 Princest Opiate - Lzarium, boboPROD, sixfeethigh,
23:00 Bass-Ic - [ www.ntkrew.org ] - NTK, Twisted Bass, [ uB-Radio.com ]
24:00 Golgo 13
01:00 Host One - [ www.myspace.com ] - HckswDvsn/OneTonSoldiers™
02:00 Spo_Onani (Canada, Quebec, Quebec) - [ www.orgonenrglab.ca ] - upsessions
03:30 dez1 (Canada, Quebec, Quebec) - [ www.musicnfriends.ca ]
03:30 Cyre - [ www.ravezone.qc.ca ] - Old School, Syndroma, Kanibalz
06:00 MelodrastiK - [ myspace.com ]
07:00 Plecko (Jungle / Drum and Bass)

It worked super well and everyone was happy .Heh

touche! when was that though?

maybe dnb and breakbeat have broken into the mainstream and don't need raves anymore :\ and i like dnb a lot as a musical style again, but I think psytrance is more than music, there's a certain feeling you get when you're there that transcends what the ears can provide, no other style can do that as far as I know...
I'm feeling good in the hood right now..

I wasn't complaining i was explaining why i was going less in rave. I go out few times a weeek.I was explaining how now i prefer going to soirées / loft party with the music i like instead of a messed up line-up with style jumping from one to another in raves like the title question was asking. This situation go fine with me !

It was Castle in the sky the rave Alienzed.

And you know for me it feels the same! I listen to some break tracks sometimes and i have gooze balm:) i think it's always like that when you're in love with a music style! i kinda had an orgasm at freestylers in 2006 just because of the basssss . If i go to a psy event ,well i won't feel like that just cuz it's not my type. But you guyz seems to have amazing parties with great deco. And your line-up always have a prog like us but in a different way:)

No matter what city the organization and talent booking process should be the same throughout. Want an example of a party with breaks and jungle going all night? ok how about andy c noisia, umm whats your flava was on saturday having headliners r c cola,16armed jack in the jungle room and plasticmotive in the breaks room.
how about another example... about 80% of ALL parties thrown on vancouver island, how about alot of parties in the uk?
Sounds like to me your living in a small world. What you base your impression of the scene is based on your personal like and experience. So you dont experience breaks and jungle parties much so you dont know much about them.
Which is understandable but not allwinig your self to have an open mind to what others who have been in the breaks/jungle boat have.

Dont get me wrong i love psy trance BUT I can go into just as much of a journey with psy trance as with some funky breaks. In my personal experience can be different for others im sure, breaks music allows me to be more creative in dancing. I can branch out and do so many styles of dancing that psy trance wont allow me. Jungle whilst dancing is something more of a feeling energized from the bass and its not so much a creative or journey full dance but more of a aggressive fuck yeah sort of thing.
So its different strokes for different folks but its also something you should not generalize and put a label to.

If you moved to victoria bc for exmaple , there is no psy scene its breaks, jungle ,electro and thats it. so it works for other places and ithe same can be said for toronto, and edmonton, calgary new york and other cities full of good electronic scenes
I'm feeling social butterfly mode right now..

Fixed

Next, I beg to differ : what you find that psytrance have than any other style is only in your head and it's called : personal tastes!
I don't see that little thing in psytrance that you guys see and trust me, I've heard plenty of psytrance in my life. But, one thing I know, make me listen to some Shoegaze Techno and I'll see that euphoric state that you're talking about.

Some others are Breaks/DnB, others it's Rock, others it's classical music.

there is a music for every moment.
and every brain.
it's when all of this harmonizes that we feel the yumness of music.
ta-daa.

and well. the whole 'getting in trance on dnb' is discutable, since the beat itself is not trance. but you can certainly reach interesting states. now is it trance? wow i don't know. if it feels good it's all that matters :P

You know what? I'm doing a research work on the subject of how can sounds can alter your mind state (actually on binaural beats more specifically but I have some co-eds that are working on the rythmical part of music and how it can affect you)

The whole thing about "being in trance with music" is actually the brain capacity of resonance. After a long exposure to some "external sound signal", you brain can actually enter in a state of resonance with this signal, changing your mental state. Since the nervous system works on an electrical impulse system that uses HZ to calculate the frequency of electrical impulse in your body, you can synchronize yourself to an external frequency.

In a nut shell :
1. Your brain activates and blocks some neuro-transmitters (like....DRUGS!)
2. Your heart can enter in a state of resonance because of the vibrations of the external signals.
3. Faster beats = Faster HZ ("Gamma state" to be more precise) and Slower beats = Slower Hz ("Alpha/Beta/Theta states")

So : you can feel the same "trance" effect on every music genres that has the same BPM.

The fact that psytrance makes you feel that way and let's say....Techno?
As simple as personal tastes.

i love those researches, i was reading as much as i could find about this too a couple of years ago. but what do you mean research work? will you eventually be making experiments where you get to put people on EEG and stuff like that? :)

i was speaking to one of the 'older people' in psytrance, and he explained to me the structure of it is not just 140 BPM, because it is also possible to hear some modulations at much faster BPM. my rationnal brain has not yet grasped the concept, but i know those faster sounds when i dance to it. it's like the groove inside the beat.

when the body repeats the same movement when it dances, it also catches the frequency, hence the shamanic transe-en-danse. when i dance to drum n bass, it's different, my moves are not repetitive because it feels more like running through the forest and i have all these obstacles that i must think fast to avoid. i feel it more as a dance of constant awareness, as with psytrance i really am travelling through tunnels, layers, or something like that, and they keep on taking me higher.

i don't know what this all means, but i think that the comparison of the brainwaves when we dance to different styles of music...... that would be an interesting subject for EEG people :)

Sorry to break a little off topic, but what do you guys think about one live set moving through quite a large spectrum of different types of music?

Like say from Dubstep through Electro to Progressive down to psytrance and maybe even some Hardstyle?

I would probably be down for that.

an off the wall style mashup can be pretty sweet.
