Personally, I find dreads awesome looking on black people because their hair porosity sort of dread on their own. And it looks a whole lot better if you have extremely curly hair to begin because they'll have a tendency to get tangled anyway.

I find it looks like cow dung on white people who have slick straight hair because they have to make them stick through layers and layers of product which makes them look horribly horribly caked.

when i was teen i had a group of black friends who were into braiding and i wanted my hairs done like them. you should have seen the reaction of my dad.. who is a mtl-nord social worker..

Dreads, like piercings or tattoos that are obvious, may not prevent you from getting the job, but garanteed that if the place ain't specifically hippie oriented or friendly, they will choose someone else if they don't have dreads, piercings, etc.
Take it from me, someone who has had long dreads for quite some time now. Dreads will not stop you from finding a job, but if you want a specific job, don't have dreads or piercings, in NO circumstances will they 'help' you get the job (rare exceptions, but that should be self evident)
A few possible scenarios: from most likely to least likely...
-they will interview multiple people, and choose someone who has normal features regardless of qualifications (unless you're the best by far, but let's face it, you're not, you have dreads)
-they won't even consider you because you do not conform
-they will consider you like everyone else, but if you are equal to someone qualification wise, you won't be chosen
-they won't care at all

But I warn you, for white people anyway, dreads are definitely a sign of immaturity/rebellion. If you're not immature, then you are counter culture, either way it will be seeing as a negative. If you want a serious job with serious people and you don't hold all the cards, dress business casual and be cleanly shaved and business casual hair.

Mohawks, dreads, dyed hair are extremes, if you want the most possible people to agree with you, don't be an extreme.

EVEN if your dreads are ultra clean

I'm feeling hype right now..

it goes like this: when you are 15 yrold, society give credits to you because youre on the big quest of finding yourself. When you up to 25 better look like you found yourself and that yourself fit in the common society.

Seriously youll probably understand one day that having a look is not about what you really want to look like but how you got to look good to others so you can obtain what you want.

Until that : go for it girl put on multicolor dreads, pierce your ass if you want. But one day youll need to be taken seriously at first glance....

Even places that DO allow people with visible body mods and extreme hair styles usually will still prefer someone who comes in clean cut with piercings out and tattoos covered and hair in a more normal fashion because they want to know that you CAN look professional which often means you can handle yourself and your job in a professional manner

yeah, curly hair is best.. where are you getting them done? Most places charge an insane amount of money for something that you can have a friend do.. just takes about 8-10 hours depending on how thick you want them and how long your hair is..

I asked a girl I know, she is a hairstylist. She is use to do dread. She is gonna charge me a lot of money. But I want extensions in it because my hair are not long enough to have long dreads. Colorful extensions. I like neon colors :D

extentions though aren't permanent.. and all you need to start dreads is 3-4" of hair..

I had done dreads with extentions before, trust me it's not a good idea.. They're heavy and pull on your scalp too much too early, so your scalp doesn't have time to get used to the weight like when they would grow out naturally. That means you end up with really thin dreads near the scalp and eventually they'll just tear off in patches and you'll need to shave bald to not look like you're 4 and tried cutting your own hair..

It's best to take the time to get them looking nice and proper and have them grow in naturally than it is to go the "quick" way.. Yeah they'll look better faster, but it's like the difference between a home-cooked burger and getting a trio at McDonalds..

Extentions are good for temporary; if you're just gonna make stick-dreads that you'll take out in a few months, it won't be as much of a hassle.. But if you're gonna try and put in extentions with real dreads, that's gonna be nothing but a nightmare, especially when the hair grows out; you'll have natural-coloured dreads, and then out of nowhere they'll switch to really bright, obviously fake colours.. And since the extentions are synthetic (since you're going with bright colours), bleaching and dying your natural hair a no-no, unless you want to see what burning/melting/discoloured nylon looks like in your own head..

The girl, yes shes gonna make a lot of money, but, it's her job to do hair, so if she bullshit me, it's her credibility that will be gone. And we work with the same people, so she could loose other contract if I end up looking like a mess! hehe
I dont want do die my hair. And I dont mind the demarcation of colors. Dont try to discourage me, It wont work! :P

As an unbiased onlooker who also likes neon colors, I feel the need to point out that Screwhead has no reason to discourage you, while the hair-stylist is in part motivated by money. Screwhead also seems fairly knowledgable about the subject...

Im not saying take screwheads word over the stylists at facevalue. But, you might want to look into the issue of dread extensions on short dreads a little further. I think your hair would look pretty bad if it was all patchy, but thats just me. You`re cute, and dreads are cute - it would be such a waste if you messed them up

I'm not trying to discourage you, far from it. I'm trying to make sure you make the right decision and not do the same mistake that I had done that resulted in nothing but problems. I've had my hair in dreads with extentions before and it was nothing but a hassle that ended up with individual dreads tearing off of my scalp.

I've made my own dreads twice already, and the only reason I ended up cutting them the 2nd time was because the day after I started making them I got a sinus infection and ended up doing too rush of a job on them and they ended up looking like total crap.

All you need to have good dreads that will ALWAYS look good is some small elastics ($1 for a pack of a few hundreds), an all-metal flea-comb for dogs (plastic bristles break, and metal teeth in a plastic arm will also end up with them breaking off), and some wax (I use Murray's, despite it being a little greasy)..

Read the link I originaly posted.. [ www.dreadheadhq.com ]

not just the "how to" section, but the "preparing your mind and body" sections, because what you want seems to be two different things; you want an "instant" hairstyle with funky colours, and that's not what dreads are. You'd be better off with Stick-dreads than with "real" dreads, because if you go through with getting real dreads done with extentions in them (especially if they're very different than your natural hair colour) then I guarantee you that a few months down the line you're going to look at your hair and thing "I spent $300 for THIS?"

There's a saying; measure twice, cut once.

Do you want hair that might take a little work, but will ALWAYS look good once you've put the time into it, or do you just want to look cool for a few months? Because they're two entirely different things.
