Thanks for the posted review, Screwhead. I was about to waste time d/l that but I'll just pass.

My PC can't run Assassin's Creed (requires dual core processor - which I don't have - for no apparent reason) so since I finally got a 360, it's next on my list. Followed by GTA IV (which I keep being told is apparently highly overrated).

what do the casual gamers have to do with any of this???
We went from 3 live + continue system with no safe at all, to a system of safe point, to infinite life (or something similar) and now you can't die.

It's evolution from my point of view.

For my part, I'm glad the old life and continue is abolish in almost every game. It was SO frustrating.
I don't want it to feel like work when I'm playing. And doing the same fucking world or boss fight over and over and over ARGH! fuck that, next game.

Did not tried POP yet, got it at home but I have no time to play anymore and I have 20 games I think to start before this one :(

thanks for the head's up Fred. i saw the commercial of PoP on TV and it looked INSANE !! it's great to know that the actual game sucks though. :)

anyhoo, i've never been a fan of those "straight-forward" type games like's Assasins creed or PoP anyways.. :) it's all about creating your OWN game within a game and finishing it with DIFFERENCES than anyone and everyone else !! :)

Taken from my roommate, who's one of the three ps3 compliance specialists at Ubisoft and who worked on the game, it's the same Pop but with a better, "anime" look. It gives nothing new. At all.

While I agree that the loss of the 3 life + 5 continue is a good thing now that we've got save-points in games, infinite lives is just stupid.. Not even infinite lives, but you just can't die in the new POP; if you fall off a building 200 feet in the air, your friend jumps out and "saves" you and brings you right back to before the jump.

It's like playing Dragon's Lair, but with no possibility of dying.

Games are SUPPOSED to be tough/challenging. How fun would Monopoly be if everyone started with an unlimited bank account and hotels on every property they purchased? Or a Rubix Cube with only two colours? How about a game of poker where the only cards in the deck is an ace, 10, J + Q + K?

That shit gets boring and you don't work your brain. It gets you stupid, like the american education system with their "no child left behind" program.. You can sit in class, do zero homework and get 0% on all your tests, and they'll pass you to the next grade anyways, because it's not 'fair' to discriminate against a person with a different learning capability and make them feel inferior to the people that actually do work.

If you want to see something pretty with no challenge that you can just sit back and enjoy, watch a fuckin' movie!

For the POP example, yeah, ok, I did not see that way... Maybe that was not a good idea indeed :P

But in other games the fact that you can't die does not mean good games will be less challenging(I love a good challenging puzzle) But they may be less frustrating.

For example: me and my bf love to play coop games. We started playing Final Fantasy Cristal Chronical. For a month, every week, we played at least 5-6 hours. We get to the final stage. The final stage took us a good 3 hours... We get to the final boss, which has 3 stages in itself.

We die 5 time (in 2h against the last boss)

They brought us back to the begining of the final stage.

We never finished the fucking games, and probably won't buy the new one. It was a great game, but that was like a fucking slap in the face, due to the fact that it was a long and hard level to beging with

That's what I meant when I say maybe not be able to die (and loose half a fucking day) is a good thing.
I'm feeling gabber bitch right now..

Shindy, ever heard of CHECKPOINTS ? Heh. Big and tough levels should have multiple checkpoints so you don't have to redo the entire level when you die.

It's simple, effective and still challenging. That, or the ability to save your game at any time.

These two simple things make sure your experience is still challenging and a shitload less frustrating. :)

Not in Crystal chronical you couldn't... you die 5 time, you where fucked...that's it... I'M STILL PISSED OFF!!!

Hehe

But yeah, checkpoint or auto-save are great... And I usually play the kill one guy, save strategie.

I had this discution a lot of time with many people. I guess I just don't play like others do... If a game gets to frustrating, fuck it, next! I don't have to finish a game if I'm tired of it.

It's my leisure, I really don't want to feel like I'm working...

or maybe I'm just lazy :P

I hate parts like that in a game.. Stuff you HAVE to do to keep going, but it's fuckin' horrible and not fun.. Had this in Dead Space last night.. there's a part where you've got to sit in a turret and shoot asteroids coming at the ship while your friend gets the automatic systems back online.. I spent about 1h30m doing JUST THAT 'cause I could never get it..

The rest of the game is fuckin' PERFECT, but that one part is just such a paaaaaain in the ass (thanks to dual-analog controllers.. For fuck sakes, they're NOT accurate! If you want me to hit a lot of tiny things quickly, give me a fucking auto-aim!)

For me it's the story that got me through.. If it was any other game, I'd have said fuck it and gone to play something else.. But I *really* want to see where this game goes.. Not a lot of games can really hook you like that.

Immersion (story line + environement) is SO important in game, and so many time it's overlook by developpers and it's sad...

I would take immersion over good grapic everyday.

I started Tales of Symphonia 2 not too long ago. The graphic really look like shit on a big screen... I don't care, the first cinematic got me into it in seconds (since I loved the first one I was like amaze by where they started the second one story.)

And sounds... PLEASE NEVER AGAIN I want to play a game like POP2 ... fucking Goodsmack song!!!

yeah, that's the most important thing for me.. That's why my favorite games are survival horror.. If they're done right, you get SO into the game it's insane.. The music, the lighting, the fear of running into something because you've only got 6 bullets left and no more first aid kits... It really gets you feeling like you're in the game.. you get twitchy, the slightest noise freaks you out.. kinda like if you were really in the situation!
