/devil's advoc-hat on.

I don't know the size of that tree, but in order to uproot a regular-sized one, a car would need to be rolling kinda fast. F = ma, y'know.

/devil's advoc-hat off.
I'm feeling alive n' learned :) right now..

Ok, so you're driving 30-40km/h in the streets of the west island. You lose controll of your car, hit a tree SO HARD that you totally uproot it (as in, the tree isn't planted in the ground anymore. AT ALL!) and then have enough velocity left to slam your car into a house AFTER hitting a tree.

Have you ever been in a car accident? I've been in a couple. I've been in one where a car going 90 lost controll and hit a tree, and the tree didn't even budge!

Fair enough. Again, my sincere condolences to Wood and to the girl's family and friends.

My point was, winter driving requires experience. Too bad this case makes for a pretty shitty one.

Yes, I know Danielle, and I probably would've done the same thing. Even if I only had a temp license.

This is an accident, a pretty shitty one. Could've happened to even the most seasoned driver, but the lack of experience probably didn't help :(

I'm sorry, but if you're not speeding, you don't uproot a tree when you hit it, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fucking moron. And that's if he'd hit it dead-on! If you hit a patch of ice and swerve off at an angle, you *might* pick up what, 5-10km/h, but you're going off at an angle, so you don't have as much forward momentum as if you'd been going straight at the tree.

Of COURSE him and his friends are going to say he wasn't speeding; he's already going to be in enough trouble as-is with driving with a temporary/learner's permit and not having someone in the car with a real permit, and if he's also speeding, it can qualify as street-racing which can net jail time, a $10,000 fine, as well as possibly worse consequences since his reckless endangerment ended up with him killing someone.

Look at the shape the car is in in this video. It's ripped totally in half. The tree is missing some bark.

If his car UPROOTED A TREE, then he sure as fuck was speeding.

La voiture a violement percuté un arbre au point de le déraciner, avant d'heurter un véhicule garé puis terminé sa course dans une résidence.

he uprooted a tree, hit a car, and ended up INSIDE A HOUSE.

Yeah that happens when you're going 30km/h.

And yes, it's sad and tragic that this happened, but if he'd followed the law and not driven with his temp permit, if he'd followed the law and didn't go speeding once he had his girl in the car (speeding to get to her place 'cause she's depressed, ok, I can get that, you want to see your girl as soon as possible. But speeding away AFTER you've picked her up?), then this acciden't wouldn't have happened.

It's irresponsibility and negligence on HIS part that caused the accident, and his mother letting him out with the car and WITHOUT a propper driver to accompany him should also not be totally excluded from this. As a parent, him being a child under 18, she is still responsible for his actions to a degree, and letting him out of the house with her car without a fully-licensed driver is something she should absolutely face consequences for.
I'm feeling older right now..
