Hey everyone, i’m not the type to complain about things and i am aware that this has nothing to do with this websites content, but i just had to express myself on this matter…

BOYCOTT shipping ANYTHING with UPS !!!

I placed an order on [ AMAZON.com ] for total purchase value of 49US $.. it was a shippement from USA to Canada. My value included shipping fee’s already of aprox 15US $. When my package arrived, they had me pay 40.00$ CAN extra for BROKERAGE FEE’s. This was outragous and only UPS charges such ridiculous amounts. We all agree that duty has to be paid but to charge an extra 85% of total value on brokerage fee’s is just as bad a fraud.

BOYCOTT UPS, please, as a business or individuals !!

sorry for the rant !! party-on !!
I'm feeling flirt-city right now..

Meh, they all do it. I, for one, hate DHL for the same exact reasons.

Two things though, Vinny:

1. Why order from [ amazon.COM ] Product not available from [ amazon.CA ]
2. Some of those brokerage fees are indeed outrageous. You can apparently avoid 'em, though it's a somewhat complex problem (what with having to go around town to a few places). You'll still need to pay customs and duties if you want your package, but here's an excerpt from Radio-Canada's La facture website (in French, sorry):

***************************************************************

Le douanier consulte les factures, la description des biens et il remplit un formulaire sur son terminal;
Le logiciel affiche ensuite les sommes à percevoir;
Le consommateur paie ce qu’il doit;
Une mainlevée lui est remise;
***************************************************************

...
Essentially, you'll need to refuse the shipment, which will go back to the company's warehouse (probably in Ville St-Laurent or somewhere hard to reach). Then, after paying duties at one of the Border Services offices, you can call the company, have them get your package ready at its warehouse "desk" and pick it up in person.

Complex, I know, that's why I have yet to do it.
I'm feeling re-1up'ed right now..

I pay for shipping here at work and i will tell u something, comming from the us u will pay brokerage and it is expensive! it isn't their fault, unless u have a brokerage firmclearing customs like we have..If u r just buying something off the net or whatever u will have to pay. It also depends on the weight and how big the package is as well....And where it is comming from so what u paid is baically normal even if u went purolator or fed ex it would have been the same maybe a bit more or less!!!

i understand the idea behind paying for customs, BUT, UPS's fee's are 75% higher than all the other companies.

the perfect proof :

I placed two orders,

- one from amazon, total weight, 1 pound, price 49USD (p.s. Masa, no, it wasn't avaliable in canada). shipped UPS.

- one from Hong Kong, total weight 7 pounds, value 33.18USD, Shipped DHL

fee's for UPS were 40.22 CAN
fee's for DHL were 11.61 CAN.

BIG Different for small differences.. :)

happen to me too :(

And the UPS I had to go pick up the box was 45 min + car from my house... and it would have cost me 17$ more to have them ship at the UPS store near my house.

Luckely, one of my friend worked there and arrange everything for me...

But yeah, UPS suck.
I'm feeling gabber bitch right now..

Yeah but clown, was it the same item/item category?

IMHO, UPS isn't less worse than DHL fee-wise. They all make a pretty good margin on the applicable duties and taxes.

... And I need to get friends in every big delivery company :)

canada post the fastest?

I'm feeling kiss me, im shitface right now..

Happened to me also... i bought pin stuff and UPS charged me 120$ brokerage fees... When I complained, they told me I could have phoned them and not paid it... But I'd have to call customs myself... 2 min instead of 120$...

Yep. Canada Posts rock. Although it being a crown corporation, I guess they have more scruples charging you more than the actual customs/duties negotiated by the govt :)

you find it normal Colin to pay more for shippements from the US then from China ? the DHL fee's were much less coming from China !!

and yes, you can use "gift" for packages of value under 60$'s ONLY from person to person. UPS suggested i have my shipper change the bill to reflect HER personal name as apose to the company so i can get it refunded. if they can refund something, it pretty much mean's it's all profit in the first place.

AND, Canada post works the EXACT same way UPS does when charging you duties.. the only work-around is "air Mail" but that usualy takes forever !!!
