In the end, you not voting simply means what I want to happen in this country is more likely to happen, and what you want will never happen.

Not voting is as much a solution as not eating in order to solve your hunger.

You say that like voting actually counts for something.

Did Bush win the first elections? No, he was appointed by the supreme court after throwing a ton of money and lawyers at them.

Did Bush win the second elections? No, Kerry conceded before voting was tallied up, and Kerry had in fact won that one according to the votes.

Voting is simply something to give the masses the illusion that they're in charge of making the decisions, and that their opinion counts for something.

What screwhead said

except Id like to add in that the votes are mostly cast by media pundits like radio hosts, tv anchors and talk show hosts. According to one study, Peter Jennings unconscious bias while reporting the news had a disproportionate effect on the voting presidential elections.

The masses are exactly that...a crowd. And they're jumping on and off bandwagons at the direction of those with authority and power results in election outcomes. The vote of the objective voter means dick shit.

Exept that we are in Canada, a whole different country. The Bush example does not apply to us.

Democracy (voting) means that the country's population gets to change the government every 4-5 years. Way better than say... Stalins style of communisn, or Hitlers style of Faschism or a Monarchy for that matter.

Your vote is just as useless as your neighbours but if you dont vote, his vote is 100% more significant than yours

The democrats and republicans were bought and sold long ago. Ron Paul was the only candidate of a major party who was actually talking any sense. It's a horrible era for American politics in general.

Whats wrong with creationism? Can you disprove it? no. Is it a theory of how life started? Yes.

And i dont see whats the big deal of it being taught in science class. It takes about 20 seconds to explain the theory. Theory: Some higher being created the universe, earth, life on earth. Any questions?

Anyways, creationism and evolution theory are not mutually exclusive theories. Remember the southpark episode with Dawkins?

I think you don't understand the difference between our everyday use of the word 'theory', and what the word 'theory' means in the scientific community.

In everyday english, a theory is something akin to a guess, usually with little or no proof; a speculation or a hypothesis.

In science, theory is something that can be tested and recreated; it's a set of observations which you use to create a model to explain how things work.

Evolution is, like gravity and relitivity, a scientific theory; it has been 'proven' to enough degree that it can be predicted and observed. Creationism is a 'regular' theory; it cannot be re-created, it cannot be predicted, it has absolutely nothing backing it up other than a book that's a few thousand years old, written by people who were superstitious and believed beyond a shadow of a doubt that the earth was flat.

The Christian's version of creationism is as easy to disprove as santa clause and the tooth fairy. Maybe they should address this issue in science classes, and dismiss it once and for all.

Ok...but by your logic then, we have no theories to explain life. Evolution doesnt explain the origin of life, but the progression of the complexity of life forms.

As far as i know of, we have only 2 hypothesis to explain life

1) power + water + nutrients combined in the right method = life
2) creationism

Granted, over billion of years, the is possible that (1) would occur...but its not overly compelling. And even if hypothesis 1 turns into theory at some point, it wouldn`t rule out hypothesis 2, since one could always point out that the greater life force that designed the universe, designed it st power + water + nutrients = life.

creationism will never be disproved. Its just of those things. an untestable hypothesis or theory

Following that logic, you cant disprove Zeus and the Greek pantheon or scientology, doesnt make them anymore plausible.

Making up an answer or accepting someone else's made up answer, just'cus you cant explain the origin of stuff, is not a very smart way of doing things.

But then again, christian ideologists havent contributed much to the advancement of knowledge, quite the opposite.

Zeus is real based on what ? What tangible proof do we have of Zeus' presence ?

We can't find an answer to something so instead of researching the matter based on actual physical or metaphysical facts, let's just wait until someone conjures up something that sounds probable and accurate enough that a lot of people will agree with and let's just run with it.

Modern society now has tools advanced enough to successfully research things that were attributed to " gods " or those beings that lived in the stars we see at night so there is no modern justification in doing what our ancestors have done for thousands of years and decide something exists because " the elder has had a revelation while he was in a his usual god-induced trance ". For all we know, these " elders " could've been paranoid-delusional enough to manufacture these realities we clung to for so long.

I think now is the time to move on beyond hearsay and actually start having tangible proof of things we used to heavily rely on " faith " before.

yeah, I mean, if the LHC works like they're hoping it will, we'll know how the big bang happened.. The fact that they're theorizing (using the scientific definition) that alone means that they have more than enough 'proof' that this is what happened, and now they're going on to the testing and re-creation stage.. Which is a lot more believable than "The invisible man in the sky did it!"

Precisely my point.

I have believed a lot of things in the past based on faith and " that guy says that's how it happened millions of years ago ".

I'm not one to believe something blindly because " that one guy that used to go to Harvard in 1845 came up with the theory ". As if being a well respected scholar in a well respected university makes you an expert on things that happened thousands of years before mankind showed up on this planet, regardless of how that person said it " actually happened ".
