A lot of people claim that raves are a 'movement' and such but it's generally the realm of over-privileged middle and upper class youths who need a high degree of aural, visual, and psychoactive stimulation (from drugs) to escape their mundane and boring lives.
Here are a small sampling of much more important topics: the AIDS/poverty/war crisis in Africa, The Iraq occupation, media-manipulation and monopolies, the negative effects of drug patents, the political crisis in Pakistan, the lose of freedom of speech in western society vs. criticizing religions, etc...  Coolness: 92345 | What I like most about raves is that there are so many different people from all walks of life, all ages and all styles of music and dress come together and their differences are never considered a bad thing. Originality and being yourself is encouraged in a positive way.
I have to agree with Scott though. It is just another music scene when it comes down to it and if you place too much glorification on raves it will be obvious you were on drugs. |

I don't know what scene your talking about, but in Montreal most of the ravers i've met come from relatively lower class backgrounds, with a few exceptions. And I think its ironic that you think its a waste of time to write about raves, yet your a music producer. Maybe you shouldn't be "wasting your time" making music and instead be over in Africa handing out mosquito nets, or camping out in front of corporate headquarters protesting their monopolies? :P |

In fact, it seems to have become a way to "belong" to a "clique". The music and decorations still make for a fun time though. And there are some nice people. People who don't just "act nice because it's a rave". |
