***It's just a little bit more difficult here than it would be in france for example, because they speak a more standardised french...***

Well, I don't know, in France they tend to use a lot more english words than here...
And verlan is quite hard to understand.
I'm feeling boosted up!!!! right now..

but i think wat vexes people with joale is that the accent tends to mangle the language and make it undecipherable, whereas in england and france the enunciation is clear, you know what theyre saying even tho they have an accent. Same with heavy southern and sometimes irish and scottish accents (sorry nellboy). Quebecers originated from france so there is a direct archetype u can refer to on the "proper" form of the language.. either way I dont see much of that 'learn our fucking language' fanaticism anymore, tis true

the proper french being quebec`s as it has not changed by much from those times. on the other hand, the france french changed very much and does not sound at all like the french of when the first settlers left france for quebec. :)

well not everywhere for sure, but the mainstream accent is definitely understandable :)

"the france french changed very much and does not sound at all like the french of when the first settlers left france for quebec."
hmm i really cant say; my dads from France and quebecers would often commend him on how his speech sounded so much like 'genuine french'.. i guess I assumed they knew what they were talking about
I'm feeling no limits, only laws right now..

They did not :P. Ez exemple: how we pronounce Moi and Toi like Moé and Toé, which is believed to be how it was pronounced 400+ years ago.

Ive been to france and was told by old ladies how wonderfull i was for speaking the old french :P (really really old ladies ;)

haha thats odd,
but i doubt most quebecers are aware of that fact..to them maybe france is still 'genuine french,'
either way its easier to understand than the quebec dialect.

There is such a thing as international french.
and more ppl should make an effort to speak it.
Whenever I encounter a french speaking foreigner, i adopt it.
I lived in morroco for a while and couldn't get understood. Alot of it had to do with the fact I was stoned on Hash most of the time.
But then I started speaking internationnal french, as in: pronounciating your syllables and all.
Not trying to sound french hfrench. there's a difference.

anyways. Closed english communities in montreal still piss me off.
learn the fucking language. please.
I'm feeling charu right now..

to each his own. I had a helluva a time with the France french my first time there.
Depends on what you are used to.

Regardless, if you live here, learn to cope and stop with the "France french bs"
