In 2 years the OS will be more stable, that's all.

My biggest complaint about vista is it's retarded UI. Every freakin icon is the same color and shape, it's nearly impossible to know what you're looking at without staring at it.

The other thing that drives me nuts is the massive start menu, they just keep cramming more and more crap into it. It's at the point where it takes up the entire fucking screen.

The useless eye candy actually slows you down when you're trying to get things done.

You can't tell what window is active and which window is in the background based on the titlebar of the window. In XP it's grayer if it's in the background. Vista, they're all the same.

Requires a fast videocard, more ram, and a faster cpu.. for what? nothing.

If you want the full version of Vista, it'll run you more $500. WHAT THE HELL MAKES IT WORTH THAT PRICE??

The ONLY reason ANYONE really has to "upgrade" to vista is for DirectX 10, and even then, it's purely marketting that XP wont be getting DirectX 10 since John Carmack himself has said that there's no reason why XP can't handle DirectX 10, instead it's being used as a leveraging point to get people to buy the new OS..

The new "security" features are comprised of harassing the shit out of the user with oodles of popup windows bugging you to confirm actions being taken in the system. All this does is desensitize the user to real threats since they'll always click "ok" without reading it.

With Vista we now have an extra layer of DRM added on that blocks your ability to watch content that you haven't licensed. This is what you're really paying for.

Microsoft is LAUGHING at anyone who upgrades because all they did was pretty up an existing OS and slapped on a huge price tag KNOWING you have no choice but to buy it. If you think otherwise, take a look at what OS comes with your new computer that you buy from here on out. Any bet's it'll be Vista? Mission accomplished on microsoft's part, they just forced their new piece of shit on you and you took it like a bitch.
I'm feeling you up right now..

There are two big reasons why people don't switch to macs (the others are case by case and far less common):

-Missing some critical program that they need and only works on windows
-They're too used to windows and find mac's hard to use.

The missing program one is probably the only real issue, and i'm not gonna say use parallels, cause even i wouldn't really want to do that (i've never even tried actually, i'd rather just run windows for that).

As for the differences making people dislike it, that's like saying "I don't like Toyotas cause they feeeel different". Like anything change requires a bit of getting used to and should not be expected to be instantaneous. Everyone i know that uses a mac LIKES them. I've yet to encounter someone who had a legitimate problem with OS X that made them switch to windows.

mac's aren't expensive. I've proven this time and again.

In fact, high end macs are significantly cheaper than their dell equivalents..

The only place macs are beat when it comes to price is the extreme low priced computers..

you can't get a competitively priced sub $1000 computer from apple. the mac mini is nice, but you can't really compare it to the $399 dells you can get..

baw, I've been building my PCs from years and upgrading as I go. If I can't do that (until I can do that ?) with a Mac, it's very unlikely that I'll switch.

Regarding parallels...
one of my boys is running his new intel ibook with a windows partition and he squared it off against his bosses new top of the line dell.
they ran photoshop filters and rendered video and suprisingly enough...
the mac out performed the p.c. substantially at both these tasks.
I'm feeling warm unicorn jizz right now..

Do you need a new ASA parallel port card to plug in a dongle to play Leisure Suit Larry and The Wumpus or something? Everything is a pluggable external device and a laptop now, upgrading anything except RAM or the HD (which you can do yourself with a mac), it's is a waste of time in this day and age. If you need to upgrade other components, it's also possible if you know what you are doing.

My experience is that by the time I want to upgrade, say, a video card... the motherboard is too slow to support it in any meaningful way. Hence, you need to upgrade the whole machine. I've been using computers for over two decades. Building your own made sense in the 90's but in 2007? No. Soundcards are firewire. Everything else is USB. I could plug in a second monitor buy default. I don't get it.
I'm feeling belligerent right now..

Well, I've upgraded my motherboard and CPU last year. My video card this year. I'm gonna change my power supply shortly and buy a new HD. I don't see how it's a waste of time.
