WHY DONT YA TRY AND KEEP UP KKKK Im not sure how a producer automatically knows more about music than a musician. A producer might know more about the technical side of things but it isn't necessarily a given that they know anything about music. I'm sure about 100% of the MSO players know more than you about music and you are a producer. YOu keep saying that it isn't about who is better yet you keep swinging backhanded arguments that musicians are inferior. |

nah man i dont mean all bands. there are great bands that write their own stuff like pink floyd, radiohead, etc etc. i was just saying that the majority of bands today have some guy writing all the peices and putting it all together for them. those guys that do that are pretty close to what producrs in electronica do ( the pro's ). its super common in pop that they hire writers , arrangers & producers. its just funny that they hire 3 people to do something 1 person should. ive also talked to many friends that went to school in audio engineering and they get bands come in and record them... i think all of them told me that most producers can do much more than the bands that came in. tbh i domnt care if youve heard of me or not. im just stating facts of stuff ive picked up along the years thats all. but you know thats got its downsides too. they could be good at one aspect and be crappy in an other. a musician normally focuses on 1 instrument and becomes the best he can be but a producer has no choice but to learn everything. (it takes 100 longer to master all this tho) but of course the musician that plays the bass is more of an expert than a producer crackin at it. |

I would say EDM is the extreme case in that most cases , the actual producer probably couldnt' even tell you what key his song was in. I'm not trying to diminish the status of producer cause i suppose i am one , but they are just too vastly different things. Producers tend to know a little about lot of things. Really good musicians tend to know a lot about a few things. I will say this tho , it would be easier for a musician to learn to produce that a producer learning to be a musician. |

an other problem is with the mp3 market... theres even more crap then ever cus there is no money to lose by releasing it. its too bad there isnt an enforced standard on mp3 shop like there is with vinyl |

a friend of mine, plays guitar, bass, drum, writes and engeneer, he can tell you about any scale by heart, but hes not so good atplaying instruments even if he did it for a long time so that is just as stupid as saying someone who doesnt have a driving liscence doesnt know how to drive ... |

come on man you are being a moron a producer has to know more things about more topics so it is only logical that he learns each one in smaller scope. A musician will tend to just focus on his instrument and music theory and altho there are probbably less things to learn as far as subjects, they go in to greater detail. And i wouldn't qualify knowing scales as knowing about music. YOu keep bringing up isolated exceptions like your stupid friends. I'm talking on average dumbnuts. | Coolness: 44495 | a producer doesnt learn in small scope. after YEARS of learning, you become good in every aspect. a musicen limits him/herself to one thing. sure they become great at it but not every well rounded. a producer learns writing and engineering at the same time. it takes longer but eventually you get everything right. |

it doesn't take longer. You consider yourself a producer and you've been spending what 6 years ? The piano majors at my school all practice 8 hours a day and they've been doing it for what 20 years ? Most producers do not spend near as much as time as most serious musicians. You are comparing apples and oranges. Just accept the fact that there is only 24 hours a day and regardless if you take being a producer or musician , you have the same amount of time to learn and lest just say for both cases , they actually used that time to learn and were of equal intelligence , they will learn the same amount , just in different subject areas. |
