its not about color or religion, but power, class and $$$

funny to see how many army ppl are patrolling looking to shoot looters rather than help ppl
saw cnn report on a group of 10 soldiers or so, spent the whole entire day looking for looters, didnt find 1 and that was there day...

I agree, peterparker.
I don't think its a race thing. I think its a class hatred thing.

Who cares about people looting an already destroyed city, where the company can write off the stolen goods... right now the concentration should be about lives and lives only.

fuck that, its so about color, cause when the truth comes down to it black people, specially in new orleans, are the the lower class.... so if it is about class, quoting peter parker, "its not about color or religion, but power, class and $$$" but the class system is about blacks, at least at the end of it?

no?

wtv im'ah sdtop drinking.

I don't know if many people realise this, its kind of obvious; most of of New orleans is inhabited by poor and middleclass black people. The neighborrhoods hit the worst with flooding are the poorest neighboorhoods that were in the lowest lying areas. Why should Bush care about minorities that don't support his regime?

It shows in his actions towards the relief effort, one of the most important priorities was getting the oil refinery's working again.

I'm not saying there was a conspiracy to keep down the black people after the storm, I'm just saying he didn't feel a need to hurry and he didn't really care about the people. I'm sure they will have a big memorial once the get the situation more under control.

can't resume it better than that...
and on my part i DO think there is racism from the governement. YES it is about $$$... but that's it! the fact that the |HUGE majority of poor people in NO is black IS racist.
damn straight. a society that doesn't give colored people as much chances to get the good positions IS racist.

well ..theres plenty of poor white people in surrending homes who are dying of dehydration because they are now homeless due to the storm. The feds are giving them equal "attention" as the stranded poor blacks. These are towns in the other southern states affected, but they aren't getting as much attention as New Orleans because they aren't flooded. But, when the news does cover whats going on in these towns, they too are dying of no food/no water/no help from the feds.

There is a racial problem in the states, no doubt about that. But in this case i believe it is class hatred. All the stranded people in the south right now are poor; either black and in the ghetto or white and in the trailer.. All of them had the same amount of help (non help) after the hurricaine ruined their homes.

However, right now in the US it is easier to get a job if you are a "person of color" IF you are qualified, over a white person because of that act (i forget the name). Theres an act where you must have a certain percentage of non-whites, and they need to fill the quota, and companies want to fill that asap. Also no company wants to be accused of racism. Many people have sued companies for not hiring them due to racism, and as most of you know, its not hard to sue in the US. So many companies will hire non whites (if qualified) at the drop of a hat. No company wants to be sued. Thats business.

The main problem with race in America right now is with all the bigots, and the fact that after so many years of oppression its hard to move up a class. Right now if you are low class in the US, the schools, the companies make it hard for you to move up.
Thats why I believe its a class issue. Its really true right now that all the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. The middle class in the US is dying.

Elka, I agree with you somewhat, but I disagree with you on what you said about jobs, Its easier to get a job in the states if you have a high school diploma or a college degree, the color of your skin is not that much of a factor.

The reason there is a big class distinction between the minorities in lower classes and the higher classes is the quality of education and the lack of well paying jobs for people with low education levels. I know this I have witnessed it. I am from Northern Minnesota. I went to college at a community college(similar to cegep except more expensive and the programs are generally two years long) near my hometown.

Becuase of where I lived, far north in the Midwest , there are not very many visible minorties, black, hispanic, other. The largest minority at the college, was the black athletes from the south. The college would send recruiters down south to find the best players, in sports like football, basketball, baseball, and other sports. The were a handful of southern white guys and girls recruited, but most of them were black.

They played sports and got a college education for free. I think its great, becuase alot of them could not afford to go to college. We don't have bursary programs or student loan programs like you do here and college is alot more expensive.

Then you have to think about what happens to the people that aren't athletes and all they have is a high school education, the most that will get you is a job doing construction work for 10 dollars an hour and no health insurance, thats what I was dong before I moved here. I have a college education too, but that was the best paying work I could find in a small town.

I know... that turned into a rant.

yeah, It's because of the government. It's cause they don't have any social services. They have to pay full price for school but they can't afford it and it doesn't help that they don't get welfare or medicare. We think we are capitalist here, but everyone here has an equal chance to get a good job, money or not. Most of the army is black and hispanic and it's because it's the only good paying job for people like them wihtout money and an education. This way they can get the black people to die for them and the white people can keep making money. I don't think it's abotu discrimination from the poeple and compaines around them, I think it's because the government doesn't give enough of a shit to even feed their own people let alone protect them. Poeple who are paying taxes. They try to fix up other countries while their people are picking hepatitis infested food from garbage cans and swimming in feces, drowing.

I'm American too, and i noticed with my friends who shelled out thousands of dollars for college (community) and although they have a diploma, they can't get any job.
