I totally agree with you fishhead, although, how do you go about describing something when talking about it etc?

we all know the only "real" music is polka-core

about half the records on mokum sound like polka tracks with a hoovers instead of accordion...

the Snares Man record on History of the futurE was hilarious as all fuck, though... breakbeat-ragga-mashup-polka in odd time signatures... like... no shit... he tossed this ragga accapella version of Men At Work's DownUnder over top of a polka track... brutally brilliant...

polka-core, however, is very 1999. It's time to move on.

it's all fuckin' music that made on machines...

I don't even understand why people talk about genres anymore... unless they're looking for buzzwords to try and convince people that they're into the 'new shit' (even though so much stuff is rehashes of semi-obscure tracks from long ago)... seriously... if someone is doing something new in music - don't try to give it a name, it's like building a fence around whatever it is they're doing. Once you start defining something you start setting boundaries. You start determining what it can and can't be. You start encroaching on it.

I understand your point but the thing is we sort of need it. It's like saying a devil's food chocolate cake is the same as a strawberry shortcake. I mean, it's cake, right ? It's just flour, eggs and water. And contemporary rock and speed metal is the same. I mean, they are both made with guitars.

We need guidelines to define what we do, otherwise everything we'd do would be vague.

I will admit that people tend to exceed in trying to OVER-categorize a lot of things but I like the fact that one track might be interpreted differently for me than for you, for instance.

Makes for interesting levelled conversations.

Makes for better conversations than discussing fucking politics, the weather or any reality or " Idol "-themed vomit-inducing TV shows.

I still say fuck the genres and just pay attention to music. You want to know what something sounds like, then listen to it. Genres breed genre purists who can't cope with the idea of someone mixing a trance record into a hardcore set... or working their way from techno to drum'n'bass... or whatever.

Yeah but I'm not gonna stop categorizing because a bunch of fucktards can't live with a trance track in a hardcore set. If these jackasses wanna be close-minded about that, it's their problem. Unless they've created it, purists don't own the style they like.

Most purists swear by this ONE style alone and every other is retarded. To me, it's like they're saying " christianity rocks, all the other religions are shit ". If purists like being arrogant and downright ignorant, it's their fucking loss.

Besides, most of these retards are too ashamed to admit they were candy ravers and listened to happy hardcore until [ insert current fad ] became big and they only swore by it.

Just know for a fact you're a million miles ahead of these morons, Fishead. :)

going thru this quickly ... no one really asnwered. so here goes : trancecore/freeform is too fast for hard trance... well at least UK hardtrance/ hard dance. slowing down freeform & speeding hard trance takes away from the song itself. there is not enough fast hard trance to make it happen and vis versa. maybe 1 mix to transfer from 30mins of hard trance to 30mins freeform but you gotta slow/speed up the tempo in the live mix before & after transfer. id pick 1 or the other for a full mix imho

Hi... my name is FISHEAD...
and my genre is "whatever the fuck I feel like playing."

I agree very much so with alot of what you said. Except that defining things can be so important in communicating anything.

It can be good to set boundaries as you define it.

I agree though that by putting things in categories we can lose sight of the essence or nature of a thing. Electronic music is made with machines, it is synthetic not natural.
