| Ian, i am looking at you...
I need answers for concerns with building a new pc for photoshop cs.
Is ddr2 really worth it or should i stick with ddr 400 mhz?
What is the best mother board to get?
Is it a better idea to store information on dvds or on your hard drive... thus smaller hard drive w/ lots of gold cds or one big ass hard drive?
Best processor? AMD or P4?
thanks in advance

Both, always both. Get the biggest drive you can afford, or even two drives (one for OS and programs, one for work), and back up stuff as often as possible. And keep the backups somewhere not near the computer (in case you ever have a fire or something).
You should always have two copies of everything you do at least. |

| do i really need a video card? |
|

| well if you want to see what you are doing a video card is recommended |

| Are video cards integrated within the mother boards?
or must i get a seperate one...and if i have to get one... how much should i spend on one? |

| Many MBs come with integrated sound and video, but I'd suggest (if you have the $$$) getting a seperate videocard in case you want to upgrade in the future... If you do alot of sound editing, same goes for the sound card... |

| ddr2 is good if you use a lot of filters... p4 100% not a celeron, 3.05+ don't get the 2.8 like i have... i got the best mother board money can buy and i don't notice speed difference but who knows... 800fsb is a must... |

| P4, Nvidia video card. |

| DDR400 = good
get an AMD dual core (coming out in a couple of months), they're gonna be waaaaay faster than what's out now.
HD, if you want real fast PS work, get a 10,000rpm drive (more expensive), otherwise get a bigass 400gig HD
If you want any sort of preformance out of PS you need a non-integrated videocard.. if your not playing gmaes and only doing PS work, then get a card that specialises in 2D rendering.
motherboards are dime a dozen, buy whatever has what you need (ie. ethernet, firewire.. whatever)
and DVD burner is good for backup, but not for stuff your currently working on. |

| Get a dual-display videocard, I haven't bought any of that shit in ages so I don't know if multi-display is standard now but having more than one monitor makes working a hell of a lot easier... |

| in photoshop, not really. a big display helps..
i've been dying for a 21" CRT forever.. :/ |

| Dual monitors is probably the best invention ever. Actual quadruple lcd is better |
|
Coolness: 339860
| yeah, dual monitors for music production must be great.. |

| I read an article on working flow for PS CS, two monitors were recommended. One monitor for the image *CRT* .. the other a plain ass monitor simple to have all your control panels for PS CS..thus not interfering with the image. |

| ehh, yeah you can do it that way. i'd go insane having all the toolbars on a seperate screen. i like my toolbars easily accessible, not on seperate monitor.. |

| I do alot of Acad work, I'd kill myself without 2 monitors.... |
