the venue was REALLY fucking warm (think Scream with Neophyte). But man the kids were out and pushing it hard!

Slammer Virus would just like to say thanks to all you folks who gave it all for our set.

man, you guys think you're hurting, you should see Ottawa.

we went from having 700+ people at our parties back in the day, to maxing out at 300.

A Rave Bylaw has made it IMPOSSIBLE to throw a rave within city limits.

but, beyond all this, there is a light. In the last few months, I've seen an insurgence of new faces, and this gives me hope. I've been doin the "Rave" thing on and off since 1996, when i was 14. I'm 22 now. I've seen this scene go from underground, and sketchy, to mainstream, and polished, and then to passe, and tired.

The new kids may not have the same vision as we did a couple years ago, and their needs may have changed, but the evolution shows that the Rave scene goes beyond a fad. A fad is uncapable of change, and burns itself out by staying exactly the same. If parties are capable of change, and the music as well, then the scene should be ok in the long run.

they've been posting updates to this on the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I cant remember the exact reference sheet name, but basically this is the thing:

-update to version 6, they're making it so older versions, including Messanger Plus! wont work soon.

-they're having network issues with the protocol, and connection type used by Messanger, it's being worked on, but it takes time with a system that fucking huge.

not much electronic music actually touches me, most indie, and old "emo" (that I've been listening to since like 94, when it was just called "indie") touches me. like:

The Weakerthans - Fallow (this entire album is beautiful)

The Promise Ring - Red and Blue Jeans, Pink Chimneys

Jets To Brazil - Milk And Apples, I Typed For Miles, Orange Rhying Dictionary

Braid - American Typewritter, Consolation Prizefighter

Appleseed Cast - Hanging Marionette, Hello Dearest Love

The Beta Band - Dry The Rain

and in the "newer music" area, the winner is:

Pilate - Into Your Hideout

this song is beautiful, and it makes me feel like water

hahaha, my dad and I just had to get rid of a handgun (old service weapon used by police in the 1930's) that my grandfather has owned for 50 years, and used to be his dads. never registered, never reported. We found it while moving my grnadparents out of their old farm.

try and explain THAT one to the police.

wow, had alot of fun playing this party.

and to he people bitching about the smashing of the monitor, it's called "trying something different". We in Slammer Virus are a little on the weird side, and like to mix shit up a bit, and try new things. Next time just go with it, and enjoy yourself.

Mr Grey Poopon was an unbelieveable help to us, and an awesome guy....nice to meet another cool person in a city as amazing as montreal, didn't catch your real name though.

It was also nice to meet Thierry, Kafwin, and a few others, and put some faces to the names.

We'll definately be coming back soon!

I walked up to Joroen (DJ Neophyte himself), and had a short conversation......fucking AWESOME guy.....with a damn good sense of humor for someone who just had thousands of dollars worth of gear stolen from him.

well, I dont care what anyone says.....all the shit i went through was worth it just for Neophyte.

we got in to the venue from Ottawa at around 12:30ish.....after some issues with lines ect. we finally got directed to which lineup we were supposed to be in. then we proceeded to wait for 3 hours.

finally, we get inside. get upstairs, and mill around and enjoy ourselves for a few hours. The venue was too hot, the lighting sucked.......note to all lighting techs from someone with experiance: white lights are retarded......period......

finally Neophyte goes on.....sure they weren't able to play with all their equipment, but i dont care......It's Neophyte....I would have crawled naked across razor blades, then taken a bath in vinegar to see them.

all in all, i think psychofrogg killed their careers last night....tal;k about a clusterfuck of screw ups.

so I'm moving to montreal in two months......

so, just the basics.

1. where should i look for places in the city?

2. where can someone who's pretty much unilingual get work?

3. how hard is it for a hardcore DJ to get booked there?
