Why We Do It?

The 21st century will be known as a time of discovery. Human beings are being bombarded with sciences that are becoming more complex, as well as dangerous. In the good old days, when most people thought about having a good time, they normally went out to a movie, bar or restaurant. The problem now seems to be that with all this new technology in our lives, the strains and pains of every day life get to us way too fast. The simple pleasures we had before just don’t seem to be enough because we always have things on our minds, and for a few selective people taking a pill, more specifically ecstasy, seems to be the answer.

Why is dropping ecstasy the answer to enjoyment and become many people’s way of relaxing? It’s simple really! As an anonymous 19-year-old student responds to the question how does it feel, he replies, "Everything is exactly the same - things look the same, feel the same, and sound the same, but everything is better, everything is perfect".

As our society becomes more and more technologically advanced, people become slaves to the objects they own. The abilities to imagine and think for oneself become lost in a world where human beings are considered more to be target markets and not individuals. For some, the longing for pure unadulterated happiness leads to ecstasy use. Objects and image suddenly lose importance while positive emotions and feelings become the guiding force.

A great chasm of differences exists between adults and children. Children are fascinated and impressed by such simple things as rainbows, jumping in puddles, and the sounds made when they hit pots and pans with a wooden spoon. When children become adults, a rainbow becomes a scientific explanation; a puddle is avoided in fear of getting wet, and the sounds of a spoon hitting a pot is no longer music. Many adults will think back to their childhood when they wish to remember happier, simpler times. Some adults will take ecstasy to marvel again at the simple things, which delighted them when they were children.

Although there are many ways of relaxing and dealing with stress, it’s obvious that as times change, we discover new ways of living and thinking. As time progresses, more and more people of the 21st century will grow fond of chemicals such as ecstasy, which were once taboo, to help their mind expand and feel young again - after all what could be better than living in ecstasy?

You have a point. I would love to be a depressed middle aged man, no longer in his prime and unable to cope with emotions related to every day events. Pass me the gun.

I'm affraid it dosn't have quite the same permanent effects as exctacy. And the effects of alcohol were-off quickly. Unlike exctacy, alcohol dosn't leave permanent side-effects if you use it occasionally.
