I don't know about not being able to get anything worthwhile for under $1000. My Samson Rubicon's R6a sound great and they were around $600.

I have a preamp on my mixer - the presonus has balanced inputs which is nice. If I was buying it new I would definately go for that one but I'm hoping to get a used m-audio firewire interface online for around a 100.

Right now I have an EMU 0404 which I really like, but I wanted this card because it has multiple analogue outputs (the 0404 only has one), so that I can cue tracks over the headphones while having a separate output running to the speakers.

I've been thinking of picking up an M-Audio audiophile firewire interface. I was just wondering how it compares to the firewire solo, or if anyone had any warnings that I should know before buying it.
Thanks

Chez Jose is a cool place to get a sandwich and coffee - it's at 173 Deluth a few blocks east of St. Laurent. You should also check out mount royal - there are some great views of the city if you climb it. On Sundays it fills up with people chilling and enjoying the sun. There also a really cool pool hall on berri and Mount Royal right near the Mont-Royal metro station. You can also explore the city and just walk along st. laurent, st. dennis, mont-royal, rachel...etc

Since you are also buying it illegally, purity and dosage are a factor. It might not be consistent and small changes in dosage can be the difference between getting euphoric and passing out. Street GHB is often made using THF as a starting product, which is toxic, carcinogenic and isn't naturally produced in the body, so you might also be ingesting that as well.

NOTE:GHB used to be synthesized from GBL which was a much cleaner and safer method, but GBL became very controlled and so people started making GHB using 1,4 Butanediol or THF, both of which I would recommend staying away from.

The venue was awesome - solid sound and good lighting - a bit crowded on the dance floor, but that's to be expected
The crowd - definitely came to represent, and did a solid job at that.
The music - I was dancing my ass off for pretty much the whole thing. Infected played flawlessly and the guitarist blew me away. Most of their set was off of vicious delicious, which is very different from their other stuff, but then again they are always changing their sound from album to album. If you came to hear them play your favorites off of classical mushroom, you might have left disappointed - I'll admit I was craving Bust a Move, Dracul, The Missed Symphony...etc, but I still left happy and had a great time.

I want to keep it simple - I'm just going to be using it for pitch bend and maybe mod - so one or two buttons and a joystick is all I need.

Don't forget whatever I'd be getting would be new enough to have a USB connector - so it would be an "Atari style" joystick, like the Competition Pro USB.

yeah - that's actually a really good call - I just did some research and any joystick can be used to send midi signals with the help of some programs. Now I just need to search for a cool very simple joystick - ideally I'd get one like the old atari jotsticks.

I was thinking of getting a Novation remote SL zero for live shows. It's compact, lights up, and feel good. My only issue is that it doesn't have any good pitch bend controls, which are pretty key...so I was wondering if there was a simple unit I could add on. The Korg kaoss pad is really cool, but overkill. Does anyone make a little joystick that would suit this purpose?
Thanks.

Hey Music Fans!
I performed this set at a party a couple of months ago and was hoping to get some feedback/constructive criticism.
You can check it out at http://www.yeshai.com/audio/ShaiGuy%20-%20Live%20@%20Birthday%20Bliss.mp3
For anyone curious about the technical details I was using Live 6 with an Edirol PCR-M50 (And NO Automation).
I also used these VSTs:
Impulse, Operator, Sampler, Absynth, Battery, BassBox, Delay Lama and ASynth.
I hope you enjoy it and please let me know what you think.

If you want a "crash course" and don't feel like paying someone for their time, check out the the tutorial section on the Ableton website, but I get where nell is coming from... I figured out a lot of the features in live on my own, and it could get pretty frustrating. It would have saved me a lot of time to have someone around to answer my questions. There are also tons of little tricks in live that you only figure out with time and it is an awesome feeling when you figure something out on your own, but it also really sucks spending hours trying to figure out a problem that can be fixed with a couple of quick clicks, so if you want to go at on your own it can be really rewarding at times, but if you want someone to give up time that they could be using to work on their own tracks to help you out don't feel entitled to a free ride...

They are a great starting point, and battery gives you enough options to mess around with them to give them your own flavor - you can also bounce them to audio eq them and layer them with some other drums. You might want check out "A pre-Kontakt Battery Primer" on [ www.spinwarp.com ] to get some quick tricks for manipulating sounds in battery.

Absynth comes in handy. I've been using bassbox for dark basslines - it's a pretty simple subtractive synth with ADSR, but it gives some mean sounds for buildups. Battery is good, but I find it taxes the CPU, so a lot of times I'll bounce all the drums to audio and drop them in impulse. dBlue glitch is good, but I've had it crash live a few times, so I like Lucifer more.
