well it wasn't for me exactly. I was recommending against it... I personally don't trust used items when wear and tear is a definitive issue. besides I was told by everyone when looking for monitors that paying under 1000$ was like trying to nail a nail into wood with a wooden spoon.
igot alesis mk2 active for 500-600, and they are pretty good i tell you, they sounded cleaner than the 1000$ model they had at archambault, and i tested it with more than 1 cd
using 1000$ + monitors in an untreated room is a waste of money anyway...
I have tiny m-audio monitors on my desk because it's the only shit that will work in my small bedroom..
I got used tannoy reveals a while back and they worked good though.. I'm not sure if buying used m-audio monitors would be worth it though, unless the savings was big.
unless you really have developped ears , just read reviews of monitors because you aren't going to be able to tell wether they are flat or not. 400$ is pretty cheap so i don't think you can go wrong.
the bx5a are 279$ new in box..and the bx8a are 439$...
if its the 5a, you are getting screwed roughtly in the ass...
and if its the 8a, you are still getting screwed, but the guy was kind enough to use some lube...
also, they doesnt sound really good, but for the price they are alright..
they are good for listening but I wouldnt produce on them....
