Murdock: yes, I think it is a recipe for self-destruction; improvement is relative, as what one person sees as improvement is crap to another. If you use someone else's love as motivation to improve, won't you be, on some level, trying to become what you think they want, instead of a better self ? Of course, if you both want the same thing, things could be different... but then then you have to make sure that you really know what you want ! :)

Personally, I think it feels more... mechanical, when I take care of it myself (unless I'm with... oh, nevermind that). So, as long as the person knows what they're doing, I find it much more enjoyable, adds a whole new dimension to it, you know ?

Similar articles (or books!) are usually generalizations, or exaggerations of what people do; the sentence you quoted was completely uncalled for (or a cheap attempt at humor, you pick), but examples of what is described there can still be seen all around us !

However, by not saying that we are competing in some way is kinda like saying that we've stepped out of evolution (however relevant that can be anymore).

(Honestly, that article got me all up on my high horses at first, going "meh, this describes immature behavior", until I started reading the parts about insulting your significant other by insulting yourself. I can't say there isn't some truth to that.)

Look at it this way;
If mostly offices switch to Vista, are they gonna stop making apps / games for other PC OS ?

I'll either wait till some new, fixed version of Vista gets released, or see what the next big PC OS is.

I've skipped 2000 and ME altogether, remained with 98 until XP got out. I don't see why I'd have to switch to a Mac just because I'm not getting Vista.

Vista apparently deletes any files it deems unlawful (your mp3s ? videos ? yeah, forget it).
It has a boatload of "cute" interface elements that eats up wayyy more memory than they should.

I'll stay with XP, thank you very much.
