btw - I've announced that I'm giving it up, but I haven't quite stopped yet... I'm playing at Saphir on Thursday (Control to Chaos tag team with tobias c. van Veen) and working on a few farewell dates... I'll probably continue with the radio show ( [ controltochaos.ca ] ) for at least a few months.

there's a lot of things going on right now... for the most part though, it's about priorities... it's about knowing I've taken things about as far as they can go - and that I've always done them my way. Over the last couple of years I've really quit caring about the whole self-promotion grind - especially in light of the fact that sucking up to promoters seems to be a bigger deal now than it ever was before... and I've never seen any point in doing that.

I think I'll always keep some records around - and I'll probably always play them... but priorities change, life calls... and hell... I've been doing this for 15 years - that's a longer haul than most.

They're archived through [ controltochaos.ca ]

For some reason, however, Sympatico seems to be having DNS issues with that domain... so some people might have better luck with... [ thisistheonlyart.com ] - which takes you to the same place (only it isn't quite so easy to remember)

I once got picked up by the cops while I was waiting for the bus to go to school. They tossed me in the backseat and said someone had been breaking into houses and wanted to know what was in the bag. I told them it was full of school books. They asked me questions for about 10 minutes before even bothering to open the bag and see that it was, indeed, school books. Then they acted surprised.

I asked them if they'd expected to find a TV inside it... they didn't think that was funny. They also didn't think it was funny when I asked them to give me a ride to school - seeing as they'd caused me to miss my bus and be late....

That's not even the worst one.... one time this guy went apeshit and attacked a friend of mine with a baseball bat (long story). My girlfriend said she'd go with the cops to point out his apartment. I didn't want to let her go alone. There were four squad cars. Once she showed them the place two of the cars left and the remaining officers left us standing outside while they went in to pick him up. Although - no one knew if he was inside or on his way home.

They eventually brought the guy out... and as soon as he saw me he started shouting that he was going to kill me. He was in handcuffs and resisting three officers at the time. I later found out he had an attempted murder prior... he'd shot someone who testified against him in an armed robbery case.

They locked him up for about three days and then he jumped bail and fled. Thankfully I haven't seen him since.

Weren't Technotronic a Belgian newbeat act that got commercial spins on this side of the pond when they slapped vocals by Ya Kid K over one of their cuts? The instrumentals might have been interesting... but... can't deal with those vocals. They make my dick go limp about as fast as hearing Neneh Cherry fronting on top of Tim Simenon's beats... Bomb The Bass was the shit... if you've ever heard You See Me In 3-D, then you already know this.

I, personally have no problems with people calling shit techno. Go ahead. Knock yourselves out. I do, however, think it's some wack ass bullshit to hear a bunch of pacifier-suckin', blanket-totin' pillheads mumbling a bunch of nonsense about how 'hardcore' freeform trance is... everyone seems to like sayin' they're hardcore, but most of 'em cry like babies when the real shit comes out...

I've said it before... there have only ever been about five trance tracks made - everything else is a permutation of those formulas. This is especially true for all that epic shit. It's been completely stagnant since 1996. Listen to Flowers Of Intelligence by Zenith or Angel in Descent by Mechanism... those tracks are killer, but trance djs couldn't wrap their drug addled heads around them - so they stuck with playing variations on the following five tracks...

Sven Vath - L'Esperanza
Age Of Love - Age Of Love
Jam & Spoon - Stella
Lunatic Asylum - The Meltdown
AFX - Polynomial-C

short armed motherfuckers can cry foul all they want, but if they actually had any idea of the history of the scene they'd throw in the towel and just walk away. It's all been done - and it's been done better. Electronic music was a forward thinking revolution of sound at one point... now it's a notalgia show for people who weren't there.... wait until 2013 - RAVECLASH will be all the rage and hipster dolts will be running around in rip-offs of Joe Bloggs, wearing 'vintage' smiley shirts and buying used day-glo pacifiers on e-bay.

if you're having trouble with a bleeding fader, try using some contact cleaner in it. You might also want to work on mixing with the line levels, in conjunction with the crossfade... it will give you a much smoother blend.
