very true, Alcoholism does kill or at least ruin a lot of people. I've seen people with DT's (Delerium Tremens) from drinking alcoholicly for years on end and it is not a pretty sight. It's scary to think that there are people who need to have a double scotch in the morning just to stop from shaking or to be able to hold down food but thats the reality of chronic alcoholsim. I agree with the fact that abusing alcohol will lead to a host of health problems, cirrosis, dt's, cerebral edema, to name a few. Personally I thank god for drugs because I'm an alcoholic but it's the drugs that nearly killed me. I probably could have kept on going abusing alcohol every day for quite a few more years, so I'm grateful for how fast I sunk on drugs to realize sooner that I needed serious help.

that doesn't change the fact that consuming drugs is done solely for getting high, while alcohol isn't consumed exclusively to get smashed.

the big difference between alcohol and drugs is that plenty of people drink and stop short of getting drunk. If you do drugs, of whatever type, you're doing them to get high. To expand, People may drink because they like the taste of the beer, or whatever mixer of shooter they happen to be consuming...People dont smoke crack cuz they enjoy the taste of ammonia :P

i used to always rave without drugs and have a blast, when I started using hard stuff, I didn't enjoy the party as much anymore, I tended to enjoy cracking out in a basement somewhere with fellow mutants a lot more. Personally, I can't handle drugs or alcohol at all anymore, I always tend to abuse them to the detriment of myself once I start. But I've been fully clean and sober for 5 months now and I'm enjoying the parties more than I have since I started using hard drugs and almost as much as I did when I first started raving. I'm way too high octane anyway, I've already got smoke comin out of my ears when I walk into a rave, last thing I need to do is throw some pills or powders on top of that.

personally, candy kids irk me a little bit, but I almost miss having them around. My personal annoyance with them doesnt really stem from their style though, someone said earlier about bringing that little extra to a party by dressing up more "rave" (whatever that means to you) for the night. I still try sometimes to go a little more extreme than i would in my street clothes when i go to a jam and i find when others do the same it brings a certain atmosphere thats not as present in parties nowadays, hence my "almost" missing the candy kids. I used to rock the graver style for awhile and I remember having a ton of fun, not because of the clothes themselves but because of the fun of really puttin the effort into the night... *Sigh* I miss my UFO pants lol

it wouldn't be a proper message board without "irrelevant stupidity" or the member on member pejorative/obsequious threads. Besides the useless, tedious or "time-sensitive" threads tend to weed themselves out as interest and reply frequency begins to wane. However, offensive threads such as over the top flame wars/personal attacks and the promulgation of hate and things of the like should generally be shut down by a moderator.
