I have a cracked version of 6.0.7 for Mac. cant find the torrent anymore though
I tried a version 5 and 7 that didn't work, but this version of 6 has been solid for over a year.

I think this might be it

Also, I used the program (Little Snitch) to keep Ableton from connecting to the net.

For Me these are the Top 3 things that make SERATO so special.
1- Being able to set cue points. you can set upto 5 cue points per track that can be triggered on your key board. Or if you play your records of relative mode, you can just drop the needle and it will play at your 1st que point. Apparently Quest Love Djs like this, and it allows him to have all his tracks ready at the right spot and he just drops them in on the fly. much faster
Personally I also like to scratch and cue paints is great for that, because you can find the part you want right away.

2- Organization. You can find music with a simple search, you can categorize your music any way you want. You can sort your music by style, title, BPM, key, etc....
You can build crates for specific gigs, and when your done keep it or delete it and you don't have to put your songs back where they came from. It takes a little work to get organized, but its amazing when its done.

3- Harcmonic Mixing!!!! Because you can lock the Key, and you can write comments in the track info, then sort them by comment, you can easily Key your entire catalogue, then play tracks in the same or related keys....Check out the site [ www.mixedinkey.com ]
I bought the software for $50 US that analyzes and Keys your tracks about 6 months ago, and it has been the single biggest step I have ever made as a DJ. Mixing tracks in relative keys in my opinion is the greatest thing to come out of this "Serato" technology. Its the future of DJing, and although its changes the way you mix, I think its a positive change. Some people might think its cheap, but technology is all about advancing, and trust me, your mixes will improve dramatically. It removes so much of the guess work and the hours of testing tracks to see if they work together.

There are lots of other amazing features too:
- looping
- the visual readout that can help people get their mixes beatmatched faster. You could literally play a set without headphones. Save your ears.
- all the keyboard short cuts, which I don't use too much but can be used in amazing ways. Aparently DJ AM is able to do some really cool stuff with them, but I never saw him.
- The fact that you can basically make your own vinyls. Scratch tools, etc...

Read the manual cover to cover...unless you like to figure things out yourself.

There are alos a bunch of random cool trick you can find out about on the web...like this auto breakdown thing, and you can press a few keys and play pong, turning the record controls the paddle

I was going to write a quick response, but there are just too many cool things to mention.
The Serato forums can be a good place to pick up tricks too.
Enjoy

I dont use it religiously for every mix, but its just another tool at your disposal.

It might be a sinus infection. Sometimes after a cold, you can get some infection stuff stuck in your sinuses and it just stays there and makes you feel like shit every once in a while . You need antibiotics to get rid of it. This past christmas I was complaining about having allergies all the time and thats what it was.

On Saturday, August 30, NCV and Art Cabaret present 'A-TYP' at Academy Private Club on St. Laurent Boulevard. After a successful launch party in April and a devastating Dance-Off in June, A-TYP is back with a new act called Art Cabaret. Known for his live performance painting throughout Canada, Peter Farmer will be interpreting a nude model through lush brush strokes on a 5' by 5' canvas that will take part throughout the night. The art will be available for purchase at nights' end, and to see Farmer's interview on Much Music, visit [ www.artcabaret.com ]

A-TYP will also feature a DJ set by Disco Tiger and a live performance by NCV artist and electro purist, Kegaska. He will be showcasing tracks from his new EP, Boreal Nights, available August 28 on [ Beatport.com ] For samples, visit [ myspace.com ]

What was once considered a tame attempt to get people on the dance floor has now turned into an indoor tornado of flailing arms and feet. The 'NCV Dance-Off' will be back with MC Randy and a bottle of vodka to await the champion. For video footage of the Dance-Off, checkout [ myspace.com ]

Host_One: Pretty much the same deal with what I said to Deafunk. I really dig alot of DnB sounds, but it would be best if it was a cross over or something. Our concept with the whole "Atypical Dance Music" thing is to release music that is hard to define. Its not stright up House, Techno, Electro or anything....It combines elements found in different styles, so that its hard to put your finger on the particular genre....We want it to be about Good Dance music, and not just about some particular scene or style. It can even be DnB tempo, as long as it has some innovative quality.

DEADFUNK: To give you an idea....I listened to the mix you posted on your DJ profile, and that style is too "Hardcore" for what were looking for, but I had previously downloaded one of your tracks called "Higher", and I think something like that is getting closer to what we would be interested in. We really like tracks that bring together multiple styles, and I do like alot of the elements in Hardcore, but we'd probably be more intersted in a crossover type thing. I think your production is really tight, so if you have anything thats slower and not straigh up UK hardcore then send it on over.

Regimental & Murdock: If anyone can send me some Atypical Dance Music, its you guys. Do it!

I dont think we are under or over paid.....
The market decides what DJs get paid. There is no shortage of DJs, and we compete with each other for gigs in terms of how many people we can bring. Either you have fans that will come out, or until you get to that stage, you better be able to bring out some friends.

That being said, most of the promo responsiblity lies with the promoter, and its also their job to take the risk. If the party dosn't work out, the DJ still gets paid what was agreed upon. Unless its some profit sharing deal.

How about you let your self smoke, but you come up with some short activity that you have to do before you smoke each time. Like do a 10 minute breathing meditation or 100 situps. (something that somewhat good for you)
Maybe the pre-smoking activity will take your mind off the urge, or it will give you some time to reflect if you really want to do it, and make it less of a reactive thing (recating to some cue) and if you still end up doing it, atleast you'll have stronger abs or a clearer mind.

No Commercial Value & CODA CLUB presents Tittsworth, Famous Players & NCV
This Saturday Don't miss Tittsworth & Famous Players (Halifax) & NCV

Tittsworth BIO:
From a performance aspect, Tittsworth has continuously dominated decks at a plate-a-minute's pace. His diverse, high energy sets seamlessly blend club, rave, rock, electro, house, and other guilty pleasures. He has grossly exceeded promoter expectations from Beijing to Brazil. Titts maintains a regular invite to play Fabric, widely considered one of the most esteemed nights in the world. He remains a favorite in Scandinavia, Australia, Asia, North America and countless cities both large and small. Tittsworth sells out in Sao Paulo, providing their best nights to date . He performed at Good Vibrations, a 40,000+ traveling festival featuring Kanye West, Cypress Hill, The Rapture, Pharoahe Monch and a myriad other A-list acts. Headlining a massive club opening in Bangkok, Titts is also no stranger in Asia. He is extremely well received from Singapore to Manila, where he played to 1000+ on a Monday night. Newly acquired by AM Only, Tittsworth joins an impressive roster including everyone from the Crookers and MSTRKRFT to Richie Hawtin and DJ Tiesto.

Some Press for Tittsworth:

This is your last chance to catch Tittsworth on home ground for a while -- his upcoming tour includes stops in Canada, Thailand and China before four days in Australia with Kanye West, Thievery Corporation, A-Trak and Pharoahe Monch." –Washington Post

"While the name sounds like the punch line to a Chris Rock routine, Tittsworth ain’t no joke. In fact, he’s one of the best up-and-coming DJs in the country, pushing club sounds to new audiences and new sonic heights” –Philly Weekly

URB Magazine’s next 100 (2007)

"Still recovering from the great time we had at The Rumble here in Malmö last night, Tittsworth killed it but we
already knew that from the mix he gave us, could very well be one of the best sets I’ve ever heard. All you dj’s
out there need to step your game up." –Int’l renowned blog, [ Discobelle.net ]

NCV DANCE-OFF COMPETITION & OPEN BAR till Midnight

On Friday, June 27, NCV presents 'A-TYP' at Academy Private Club on St. Laurent Boulevard. After a successful launch party in April, the boys from NCV are introducing new talent on the label, a renowned DJ in the Montreal electronic dance scene and the guest DJ for the night, Romeo Kardec. His set will showcase NCV's fourth release on Beatport, Romeo Kardec vs Le Keuk, a minimal-tech-house step session that drops heavy on the dance floor, and in your head phones. It will be available June 17, exclusively from [ Beatport.com ]
A-TYP will also be the grounds for the 'NCV Dance-Off', a battle that won't necessarily crown the best dancer, but instead rewards the most crowd pleasing contestant. To warm up the crowd, NCV will provide an assortment of drinks, an open bar of sorts, from 10PM until midnight.

That looks like a pretty sweet place...you could do some really cool things in there....
keep in mind that there will be a number of expenses that people havnt mentioned yet:
Hydro,Insurance, security system, Internet, Phone system & Installation, a sign, repairs and renovation,
furniture / displays, Interest on a loan, advertising.
If you plan on selling anything you'll probably need a cash, maybe a point of sale terminal so you can accept interac and credit cards, bags, promotional material, etc

And I wouldnt be so sure about negotiating the rent down....from my experience $1/ square foot is not a standard....

my experience has been $2 /sq foot for a basement retail space in westmount..
I paid $4.50/sq foot at my downtown office (7th floor) PeeléSt-Catherine, and about $3 in old montreal....
This is an extrmeme case, but there is an ING bank machine on St-Catherine around Peel and they pay $400/sq foot. Granted they only have about 6 sq feet total....but still

+ keep in mind that renting a commercial space is not like renting an apartement, ususally they want you to commit to the space for atleast a year usually longer...

Mico: I jumped a new bracade. If it had been the turnstile I would have tried to just walk straight though. Also , I was pretty much able to step over the barrier, because its quite low in the middle. With all these new signs saying that cards are replacing tickets, Im pretty sure they a phasing out the attendants right now and they will all be replaced with a machine pretty soon. Thats what most other cities have.

I decided to contest, and even though Im not feeling that confident about the whole thing, I figure its my responsibility to stand up and say something. I spoke with an employee of the STM and they told me that if I go to court and I don't win, its likely that they will reduce the fine. They also told me that there is an STM rule for attendants that if they are not in the booth, then they have to open the gate. I'll let you guys know what happens. and thanks for the advice/comments, etc....

The metro cop told me that even if the guy left his post for 1 hour, it still dosn't give me the right to jump the turnstyle.
And then he says "When you go buy groceries, if there is no one at the cash, do you leave without paying?" I said, there is never no one at the cash and its not even the same thing!?...

The second after he caught me, I showed him 20$ and said I want to pay, but it wasn't an option.....and he's like "oh yeah, everyone wants to pay after they caught".

It would be nice to get a lawyer, but that'll probably cost me more than ticket.

So I go to Vendome metro and I went up to the booth to buy 6 new tickets but the attendant wasn't there. Usually when that happens you just go through for free, but the turnstyle thing was closed. So I waited about 30 seconds, then I hear the metro comming...Im thinking the guy probably forgot to open the thing before he left for a break, so I jump the turnstyle and right away an undercover metro cop yells at me a proceeds to give me a $210 ticket.
It was like a sting operation or something.
I tried to explain and see if he could give me a warning, but he wasn't very understanding.

Anyways, now Im trying to decide if I should pay or contest.
any one ever contested a ticket from the STM?
any advice?

I have a friend who set up a second account with his canadian credit card, but just puts a US address and it workde for him. That was a couple years ago though, not sure if that will still work.

As far as the Champion releases being restricted, that is probably only on the album and not the singles.
All the singles are put out by Saboteur on vinyl and online, so there are no major distributors involved.
The album however has a different distribution deal so they can get it into HMV,etc.... The distributor probably puts some money into advertising the album alswell, and makes a cut off all sales in stores and on major online stores like Itunes, but not Beatport. So they dont want to pay for an ad targeting the Canadian market and have people pick it up off beatport and they dont see any money off it.

Im positive you could pick it up off Itunes no problem.

No Commercial Value presents A-TYP, a new electronic dance monthly at Academy, featuring:

Open Bar until midnight
Dance-Off
Kegaska live (NCV)
DJs Deliz & Dave O'Brien
Pictures by Max Miles
VJ Kas

NCV founders, Deliz and Dave O'Brien, have been in the Montreal electronic dance scene for the past five years, DJing countless clubs and party's, and holding residencies at Saphir, Kafein Lounge, and recently, Blizzarts. In 2007, they started NCV, the record label, and began selling music online through Beatport, Itunes, Napster, and Rhapsody. Now, they have created an outlet where producers, DJs, and music fans, can enjoy the best of what electronic dance music has to offer, while having an incredibly ridiculous time, NCV style.
On Saturday, April 12, they introduce a new electronic dance monthly that will showcase NCV artists and DJs. Newly signed artist, Kegaska, will be performing live at 11PM, and his set will feature tracks from his releases, The Seal Hunt and Source Adjust, found online at the above mentioned stores.
Up until midnight, party people can warm up to drinks that will cost only a tip, and then showcase their dance moves at the very first 'A-TYP Dance-Off Contest'. Contestants who volunteer will dance individually for one minute, competing for one grand prize of 100 dollars. The music will be spun by Deliz and O'Brien all night long and NCV's very own producer and photographer, Max Miles, will have a photo booth set-up to take in all the action.
Visuals will be selected by VJ Kas.

I love the WIRE. I just finished season 2. I find the style of the show takes a little getting us to and at some points in season one I even found it a little frustrating... Im guess I have become more use to shows that rely on action to keep the viewer interested. I like how it dosn't always give you what you expect...Its feels much more true to real life
here is a pretty good article about the show for those who havnt seen it.

I made one out of wood. But its Flat and its for a laptop. I just got 2 L-shaped brackets($5) and a piece of wood with a laminate surface ($10). I found the studs in my wall through trial and error (i basically hit nails into the wall untill I found them)
If you wanted it to be on an angle, you might be able to find brackets that are at an angle, or you could buy some wood and cut it at an angle. If you go to a Home depot or Rona with some idea of what you will need, they will cut the wood for you for free.

Obviously its not portable, and It'll kinda like the the one you posted from England.
