fear and loathing in las vegas... The book had lots of interesting observations about the time the story took place.. while the movie was just a long drug trip....

I like books better coz I can read them when I want, where I want and I can visualise the characters the way I want them to be.

But then again I love reading.

Im currently reading a choose your own adventure novel... just for old times...oh boy what an interesting adventure involving a time machine and the underground railroad
haha
I actually would much prefer it be one on seamonsters, pirates, or space...but whatever...even if its history its still a choose your own adventure!

you know Ian...i don't know how you go about thinking, but i really don't understand how you make sense to yourself...

A book and a movie are completely different forms of expression, and to compare the two, is pretty difficult...

in no way do i think movies are for dumb people (actually thats not true, i think the majority of hollywood output IS for dumb people, but film can be done in many different manners)
i think that movies have been a terrible influence on society, who take the manner in which movie charecters act as social norms (no matter how exageratted)

only in very provocative movies which challange the way we think (which can be done in many manners through film) is significant brain use required...otherwise, it's sit, see, get up and go

as for books, i think everyone should have a book to read, i think people should read as a norm, not only does it require you to think (this isn't true, depending on who you are, you might just read the words and not what is being said, in that case, reading is a waste) about what is being said...though i will say, that there are many many books out there just like hollywood films, that have not redeeming qualities, that are just mindless prose. But a good book can (without showing you a thing) pull emotions of every kind, and, are FAR more personal than a movie is...

but again, the comparison is stupid, movies and novels are two far different...

movies are geared towards the non book readers, they're geared to shorter attention spans, and yes, saving private ryan, WOULD be completely different if it were also a book...

books require the reader to be the audience, but also the projector, all a book is, is a film reel

(^thats cornball^)

books are important for everyone to read, not just children

movies, i'm very pro for, but i think they are mostly garbage brainless herd fodder...not that i'm not part of the herd, i just got a different appetite

yeah i realized that...

and Sarah, of coarse you can though, but for the movie version i'm gonna have to change somethings, to make sure the ratings are high, so there'll be a little more sex than the book version...but dun worry, i'm playing myself

when i'm at home i like to do a million things at once and so it's really rare that i can focus on a movie anymore

and movies sucks when you watch them.. stop.. and try to finish watching it later

been pretty ADHD lately so books work best for my current lifestyle

my work is mentally and physically exhaustive so i take the longest bus/metro route going anywhere just to read an extra chapter or two

i always need to read something before going to bed... got five cases of comic books right next to my pillow and books galore

y'all know that bookstore not far from bluedawg? in the summer they have that 1$ a book sale... picked up some nice reads

having too many books sitting around is a bad curse tho

now i can't shut up and rambling again

stupid pot of tea

anybody got movies for me to borrow or will burn me a vcd? i'll take ya out to eat

i love eating

we can cook

i'm an ill cook
it's cause my mommas an ill cook

my girl always cooking and baking stuff for me

i used to think girls forgot those stuff
thats why i became an ill cook
it's actually my moms fault
she told me girls forgot how to cook so i had to become an ill cook

anybody here write short stories?
any short story workshops in town?

peace out

I agree completely, i never compaired the two.. i was making the point that alex was comparing them in a very dumb manner.

see heres the thing tho, you make it sound as though books are infact better than movies... which is you comparing on to the other.

i don't enjoy reading books, i find them to be too dry and takes far to long to get the message accross.. if a person were to tell me the story it would be far more interesting to me than to read the person's chronicles..

it's like getting a change to talk with a famous historical figure.. or reading what he wrote..

i'd go with meeting/talking with the dude.. and movies kinda allow that sorta in person feel.. books are just words on a page.

i'm not so much into fiction myself, though i gotta admit i've got some of those hollywood books on my shelves...i still think Michael Crichton is a good writer...but jurrassic park was kind of his downfall...

Casteneda has been on my read list recently
