anyone have one or used one? i want to get something with firewire with mic preamps and multiple outs.

i'd like to be able to use traktor with two seperate stereo outs so you can plug them straight into the two channels on the mixer, you know? but i'd also like to be able to record voice and instruments well. im still on this fucking shitty ancient soundblaster.....

i think the m-audio 410 looks ok.

yup and it seems its the cheapest of its kind. there is a big price leap after that model.

if you chose do get it, let me know how it performs as I may look into it as well later on this year.

It's newer technology so stuff probably isn't 100% yet... Firewire is way better than USB though for speed.

There will be a battle between firewire and USB 2.0 soon enough, if it hasnt started already.

Yeah, and on Mac. And so is Firewire, though firewire I think originated with mac, and USB originated with PCs.

what matters is that they are both available on both platforms and they are similar speedwise.

Firewire is a hell of a lot faster than USB 2.0 (well, the latest release)

Usb 1.1: 12Mbps
Firewire 400: 400 Mbps
Usb 2.0: 480 Mbps
Firewire 800: 800 Mbps

Also, USB cables are good for about 5 meters before it starts to slow down and gets unreliable, Firewire cables can go up to about 100 meters before they slow down.

And then, there's the powering issue. USB can power 2.5w at most, Firewire can power 45w.

blake go with the m audio firewire SC youll be supper happy with it I used it in a studio about 2 weeks ago and it rocked... both on a pc and a mac
also not boys USB and FIREWIRE orginated on a mac and was later adapted by pc archetecture... sony was the first to use firewire protocall in the pc world but they both part of the new standard period... fuck serial or scsi devices that suck and are slow in comparission...

what are you talking about..
for example I run an all mac studio and have 2 firewire devices... for 3 machines...
what the fuck do you think they make FW keyboards and mice? or firewire midi?
no need for that kind of power for such things...
you only need fw for high bandwidth devices...

what are YOU talking about. i never made any references to USB, they were all to "USB 2.0" and "firewire", never just "USB".

quit shooting your mouth off just cause you don't like me.

we are talking about soundcards... usb 1.1 ones are pretty basic at best.. I have heard of people having problems with them too.. like dropping out when you are doing full-duplex or multi channel stuff, which isn't surprising since usb 1.1 is so slow
