That's my exact point.

And yes I saw that video about the sample it's crazy that these guys basically got nothing for the most insanely omnipresent sample ever.

Actually funk evolved from gospel and jazz, not blues.

... funk rose up from the mixed ashes of African and European music traditions, as well as Christian alternatives to mainstream secular music.

Funk music has nothing to do with european music tradition. Try again.

Death metal has a lot to do with African music tradition though. There is a drummer.

Actually, I think Ponchalice made his point pretty clear, it can be debated that funk draws some of its roots from Church hymns and harmonics. And well, guitars and organs and such were mostly developed in Europe.

... while it has been said that the Blues are the root from which all jazz was developed, its quite a far stretch to say that funk comes from the blues.

but it definately comes from the jazz though.

regardless,

what are the odds that African Americans could have modified European church hymns, folk songs and music to fit their own taste and traditions... and then passed those tastes and traditions on down the line. and all these adaptations on european instruments... why, thats the same thing as saying death metal has african roots because of the drums.

I dunno. The only reason I see is that all that semantic discussion is part of a very elaborated plan to establish the New Funk Order and send everyone not funky to their slow and painful death in the musical gulag while we shake it like there's no tomorrow on the insanely hot dancefloors of funk where nothing but funky shit will play until the end of time on repeat.

Maybe I could headline the line-up at the gulag though... That would be awesome!
