Yesterday brought major news for horror fans that there is a new “Evil Dead” movie in that works according to Bloody Disgusting. They also have revealed that Federico Alvarez will be directing the film. He made the robot invasion short “Panic Attack!”.

“The Evil Dead” is film that launched the careers of both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, amongst many others. In the series, there is the superior sequel, “Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn” and my favorite “Army of Darkness” and together they make up on of the best franchises in horror history. Bruce Campbell has reached major fan boy status from these films and will always been known as Ashley J. Williams aka Ash.

There has been rumors of a fourth “Evil Dead” for many years now but this might be the final rumor. It is hard to believe but it is almost 20 years since Ash last fought The Evil Dead.
Dread Central reported last night that a fourth film is gearing up for production in Detroit, and editor Bob Murawski, who worked with Sam Raimi on all three “Spider-Man” films and “Drag Me to Hell”, is gearing up to start working on the project. Bruce Campbell recently joined Twitter and left one of the best comments to a fan confirming this rumor “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.”

So this finally might be it “Evil Dead” fans, according to Dread Central it is not going to be another shitty remake and they are calling it “a small indie thing like the first two.” Not sure of Bruce’s involvement though or if he will be picking up that chainsaw again. But what is “Evil Dead” without Bruce Campbell? Since Sam Raimi is not directing, not sure about his involvement otherwise since “Oz: The Great and Powerful” starts in a few weeks. Hopefully we will get more information at or by Comic-Con. Just keep your fingers crossed this actually goes to fruition finally.

If Bruce Campbell isn't in it, it simply isn't Evil Dead IMO.

I sure hope this is real and that he's in it ^_^

Sweet! I'm rarely excited about films 'in-development' but this kicks ass!

Like Strik though, without Campbell, it won't be the same ... but if he isn't the main character, I'm sure he'll at least make a cameo appearance ...

Either way, we'll be waiting so long for this to come out, that it better not suck!!
I'm feeling you up right now..

I really wish they'd have done the Don Coscarelli Phantasm/Evil Dead crossover movie.. Bringing in Ash to meet Reggie from Phantasm and having them both track down and kill The Tall Man who'd discovered the Necronomicon..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

The second is a remake of the first film btw and the article Betty quoted says this:

Take it for what it's worth.

It's just the first 15 minutes of the 2nd are a quick recap of the 1st movie, but if you take the actual Evil Dead 1, and edit it with Evil Dead 2 right at the scene where he's getting thrown through the forest, they fit together perfectly as 1 movie. the first 15 minutes was just a recap for people who hadn't seen the 1st since it was a rare, unknown movie at the time.

But yeah, I reiterate : it ain't Evil Dead without Bruce Campbell. That's like Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford.

Seriously, I don't care if Campbell is too old and can't run real quick, Ash NEEDS to be Bruce, no matter what.

Unless you do another one of those annoying prequels where you can get some 20 year old to play a younger version of the main character which usually ends up looking nothing like the original one and can't reproduce the various facial expressions and humor Campbell is known for.

I'm eager but time will tell if they're steering it in the right direction. :)

UPDATE: In a follow-up tweet, Campbell clarified that the new Evil Dead film is in fact a remake of the original Evil Dead and not an all-new chapter. "Good people. My tweet was about remaking Evil Dead - not Evil Dead 4," he wrote. Campbell's role in the project is not yet known.

It also appears that while Sam Raimi will be involved, Fede Alvarez will actually be in the director's chair. According to Bloody Disgusting, Alvarez came to attention with the 2009 short film Ataque de pánico! [Panic Attack!]

One of the first horror that I ever saw.... I can't remember.

There were these pumpkin masks distributed around... they were hot seller items for Halloween. Then they showed these commercials on TV which triggered something in the masks... if you wore one you would died. I faintly recall something with lots of worms infecting and pouring out of their own created orifices.

Wouldn't happen to know the name of the movie?

EDIT: never mind found it, it was Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
Didn't think of the Halloween series since Michael Myers wasn't in it.

lol, yeah, Halloween was originally supposed to be a sort of "anthology" like that.. Every year, for Halloween, a new horror movie was supposed to come out.. Halloween 3 was just so badly received and everyone loved 1+2 so much that they said 'fuck it' and went back to Myers instead of risking more flops.

Doubtful, as the original is The Thing (From Another World) made in 1951. Carpenter's The Thing is a remake...

Here's the IMDB page: [ www.imdb.com ]

So year, the 2011 one is a remake of a remake.
I'm feeling dextrous right now..
