Actually 2011 one is a prequel to the remake, it starts 3 days before the 1982 movie. The americans are brought in "last minute" once the ship is discovered, that's why all of the notes were in Norwegian in the 'first' movie.

(And let's not forget the HOMAGE to the remake, Reservoir Dogs!)

It's still a sign of the apocalypse when remakes are being remade, reimagined, prequeled or sequeled.
I'm feeling dextrous right now..

Well actually, according to wiki, The thing (1982) is closer to the original book (novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr) than the 1951 classic "The thing from another world". And the new one will be hapenning in the 3 days or so before the alien disguised as a puppy runs of and meets Russel's crew.

So basicaly, the 1982 The thing, and the new one are in a class "a part" from the movie that was a shoddy adaptation of a novel.

I vouch for it, prolly gonna be really good. I actually started watching the orginal flick, and truth be told, there was better films made in the time.

And let's not forget the The Thing PC/Xbox/PS2 game that was a sequel, taking place 1 week after The Thing ended!

okay well then, to be SURE THERE IS NO CONFUSION, I will correct my previous statement.
"The first BD I got is John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). I love it. I also have Evil Dead 2."

--------

One time in art class, we had to keep a journal of our drawings and doodles. I made my version of the Necronomicon (influenced by Evil Dead ofc). Red ink, yellow pages, circles of summoning. Diagrams of demons, nefarious symbols, and random invented language. Except my art teacher was also an art psychology therapist, and thought I was on the verge of suicide. Silly her.

Mind you, the 1982 version of The Thing is one of my top faves, I'm not insulting it in any way. :D

I used to be upset about remakes and sequels of movies I like until I realized that like comics, it doesn't kill the original (except for the Matrix Reloaded).

Exactly! Just because a remake comes out doesn't mean that the original is magically retconed out of existence! And there have been a TON of really awesome remakes!
The Thing
The Fly
The Ring
The Blob
(wow, lot of "The *SOMETHING* movies on this list lol)
Heat (a remake of a made-for-TV movie, LA Takedown)
Scarface
The Departed
The Wizard of Oz (the actual original was a black and white silent movie)
The Magnificent Seven
King Kong (not the Peter Jackson abortion, the 1976 version)
Cape Fear
Romeo + Juliette (the one with DiCaprio in it)

Even Rocky is a dumbed-down remake of City for Conquest with James Cagney (no matter what Sly Stallone would have you believe).

yup, though there was a period when Spiderman had organic webshooters right around the time he went into The Avengers, shortly before the Civil War!

well, kinda. The symbiote WAS shooting webs, but it was "itself" that it was shooting, not actual webbing, and after a brief period the stuff would "die" since it wasn't connected to the central mass, which ended up with it dissolving after 1h like spidey's home-made webs.
