I went once and never again.
Does it make sense that people protest violence with violence. People show up with bats and chains! I seen people throw glace bottles at the police and wonder why they retaliate! If you really want to live in a non-violent world why start with violence yourself.
Whats your opinion?
I'm feeling pensive right now..

My opinion?

(Most of) Those who are protesting are fucking morons. If they remained civil, and remained within the designated route which they were supposed to have agreed upon with the city, then the cops would not have beaten the shit out of them.
I'm feeling x_x right now..

The thing with the protests is that they DON'T agree on a route with the city - they're afraid that if they do the organizers will get arrested since the city will have info on who's organizing where when they fill out the paperwork, so the protests are pretty much 100% illegal.

I went to one of these protests about 10 years ago. Back then it was about throwing bear bottles at cop cars. Sad to see nothing has changed.

i went to that protest once, i don't see the point.
a good excuse for punks and pseudo-anarchists to let out their frustration.
in the end, sex is a better outlet for that... but they'd need to take a shower... don't know if they're ready for this :P
love can change the world. what goes around comes around.
my experience with cops is always rather hilarious... just deal with them the good way, with smiles and consideration. there may be some that are assholes out there... just like any other kinds of person. for me, they give me rides when i hitchike. i respect that. :)
I'm feeling dendrophilia right now..

Police brutality is a real problem. The cops have killed people here in Montreal, and this protest used to make the rounds of the spots where homeless people and fellow punks had gotten the shit kicked out of them. But now, it seems like a bitter excuse for some violent people to hide amongst a large group of people and cause trouble.

I was arrested at one of these protests years ago, and yes there was ONE PERSON who broke one or two windows at a cop station, and we were subsequently surrounded and 'arrested' (i don't remember hearing my rights being read) in the parking lot in for of the Palais de Justice (how ironic). It was shitty out, and the march was coming to it's end anyway, so it was all very useless. I got thrown down and mistreated 'cause I suggested that they take my friend on the bus first (like I said, shitty outside, and she didn't have a proper jacket) -- anyway, 6 cops and a few bruises and a slight strangulation causing a mild asthma attack later, I'm in a pigmobile with a guy who did ALL of his PCP so he wouldn't get it taken away, or used as evidence. Good times! xD

They accused of us of a bunch of vile crap, like some graffiti that was on a particular wall for about 6 years, and all they found was some marbles and other stuff that is normally found in a backpack, but they said were 'weapons' or parts of weapons. :/ Obviously, whoever caused the trouble in the first place, was long gone. They managed to arrest a dude in a wheelchair who just so happened to be going by at the time, not in the group at all. Anyway, there's more to the story, but whatever.

We were acquitted about 5 years later. 300 people arrested, 150 got taken to court, maybe 8 plead guilty and paid a fine so they wouldn't have to deal with it, and with a little patience, we were all eventually found innocent. It was a clusterfuck of a court case, and the lawyers worked pro-brono since we were all refused legal-aid. I have never protested since.

There are people, for good reason half the time, that violently oppose the police, but they use protests as an excuse. Though I agree with their hatred, I don't necessarily agree with their methods.

For every good nice helpful cop, there are 5 evil power-tripping asshole cops, and 20 normal bastards who just mull around simply 'doing their job'.

Anyway, protests are still a necessary part of this society, but I won't participate, as I've seen first-hand how little it changes here in Montreal. The Anti-Police-Brutality marches are very well known to the cops, and they do everything in their power to stop 'em, 'cause obviously, they feel a little targeted.

So, to each his own solution to fighting oppression.
I'm feeling you up right now..

cops, just like security guards, will make the effort treat you right only if they have a reason to ; if you look nice (a crook can't look nice!) or seem to have money to sue them silly if they even attempt anything on you, or are a criminal in an organization that pay them (I'm sure that's a lot).

I tend to look like a hobo and when I ask for help at a school guard, they give me attitude like I'm wasting school air but when I'm asked my school card and take it out, their attitude change. I had a similar experience with a cop.

a lot have no respect, they genuinely dislike people and are more than happy to have a profession that doesn't require them to have to change their way.

This protest and its protesters are both a fucking joke.

What's the purpose of such a protest anyway ? Police brutality awareness ? Each and every year we're reminded of it with the sheer amount of damage and arrests being done. At this point, there ain't no justification for such a demonstration. Your retardedness has made it a painful yearly event that we all spend months trying not to think about anymore. So in 2011, "awareness" is a lame and bullshit excuse for this ridiculous display.

Also, I keep hearing the "well not all people there are anarchists wanting to break everything. Most of us are peaceful protesters but these guys are ruining it for everyone" argument. Here's what I think about this argument :

Ok so you have about, what, 4000 people showing for this event ? Say, about 10 or 15 are actually there to tear shit up for no apparent reason but to be rowdy and disrupt the reunion. One of the points of this march is to denounce police brutality and prevent the rise of a police state.

Let me ask you this : why the fuck doesn't the remaining 3090 people gang up on the handful of punkers and CONTROL THEM ? You don't want to live in a police state yet you let a bunch of anarchists screw up your protest because you're pacifists ? Is that how you plan to deal with violence in a policeless state ? Bravo. * claps *

Oh but wait, it just occured to me. Those 3090 other protesters aren't going to do a damn thing about it because it gives them fuel for the event : do a massive reunion, get a few junk throwing crazy bastards in for good measure, police ( or innocent bystander ) gets junk ( or wine bottle ) upside the head, police ( or anyone else for that matter ) gets fed up of being thrown all sorts of shit at a supposed peaceful protest and notice the crowd's ineffectiveness at containing crazy bastards by themselves, moves in to try and reason with crazy bastards with "FUK LA POLISSE !" plastered all over their leather jackets, get kicked in the groin, retaliate with some nightstick action and get called out on some "OMFG POLICE BRUTALITY !!!!!!!11!!!!!1" accusations when the protesters should in fact spend more time yelling and screaming at the retards breaking shit that are giving ALL of them a bad name in the eyes of the media and public instead of ganging up on the cops.

Doesn't this movement have a or a few leaders ? What the fuck are they doing ? Isn't any of the 3090 people there concerned about public image ? And if there are, why are they in such small numbers ? Doesn't the rest of the people there care enough about looking like gigantic asses to the rest of the world to try and avert crisis instead of throwing fuel to the fire by also yelling, kicking, punching and getting clubbed ?

I'd also like to be explained why the protest for police brutality ALWAYS invariably turns out to be the most brutal protest of the year. 200 arrests this year. Wow. A real example of pacifism right there. Oh and before anybody out there says those arrests weren't justified... why did so many get arrested ? If I see 5 riot geared cops inching towards me, I RUN THE OTHER WAY instead of standing there defiantly. Don't come wailing, crying and bitching if you got arrested, it,s your own damn fault. You should've just walked away instead of trying to make some romanticized socially heroic stand.
I'm feeling [__insert emotion here__] right now..

maybe a lot of protesters condone venting frustration in a violent matter and don't think of the consequences? and if they make the effort to protest police brutality, they're willing to take some of it in protest?

is there some sort of humanist reason that protesting need to be peaceful? yes, violent protest is not thought through but the gathering is protest, not advancement of the cause. even reading COBP website you could see that they don't object (perhaps even prefer) confrontation, so I don't see the big surprise that a lot feel no empathy toward the system, much less to authority ; it's not a far stretch of the mind to figure they condone violence toward them.

I do agree that violent protest is useless, thus why I left after more than a few violent incidents, but I have no judgment to pas to the ones condoning violent protest. again it's clearly labeled as protest, not a peaceful one nor a movement for the cause. so if they want to be political while laughing at some frustrated kids breaking wealthy shop windows, so be it. I just hope they have the sense not to cry when they get arrested.

but what's your point of posting that? are you hoping that a few acquaintances of those condoning violent protest will try to convince them otherwise after reading your post?

What I don't understand is this constant BS of "fuck the system", "fuck the police", "down with the man", "I don't want to do what society wants me to do"
We are the system
the police are individuals just like us
"the man" is just some guy who's more successful than you
society is all of us

Before deciding you want to 'fight' for your beliefs, first ask yourself if there's even a small sliver of possibility of winning by doing the things you are. If you truly want to change society, get an education, start a movement and let the people decide if they support your ideas before making an ass out of yourself.

When you start with violence, you lose all your credibility in an instant; no one will listen to you once you cross that line. Lead by example, not by force.

For the record, these indeed "pseudo-anarchists", more akin to nihilists, give actual anarchists a bad name.
