I don't really have Linux installed, that was just sarcasm. My computer still won't fully boot up, on the drive that already has win installed, it gets past the winXP screen, then restarts. While winXP cd is repairing, it freezes. When winXP cd is installing on new drive, it freezes. Well, not to sound like a broken record, but have you checked the heat sink to see if it's gunked up and needs a cleaning? It might be an over-heating problem.. Since it's fucking up with the new drive, it's obviously not a hard-drive problem, so you're looking at needing new hardware somewhere in your rig. Your ram may have fucked up, or your IDE controller may have fucked up. Either way, by the sound of things, SOMETHING needs to be replaced, but to figure out what you need to swap through every single swapable component and test with others that you know work to pin-point exactly what it is that's fucked. Until you do that, there is absolutely nothing anyone can tell you that will help you. |

 Coolness: 558590 | I found an old NTLDR fix I used to use, maybe this'll help. If you already tried this, or it was already posted, shame on me for not lurking moar.
1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer. 2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key. 3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows. 4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter. 5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. (If you don't have one, just hit enter) 6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer. copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\ copy [ m ] c:\ 7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot. |
