Gambling Game - Need Input

So I'm finally making that gambling game I wanted to make for years since I'm fairly bored when I'm at home and the rain keeps me inside. I wanted to make something different then what everyone else has so I made up my own simple game but there could be problems with it so I'm asking if anyone sees any. It's a poker type game.
--- Both players put initial credits into the bet. People are dealt 5 cards each. FIRST BET: Players bet. Each player can choose to discard one card. A card is picked from the pile and placed face up. This card now belongs to the people who discarded a card. It's a shared card. If they didn't discard something, they can't use it. SECOND BET: Players bet. Each player can choose to discard one card. A card is picked from the pile and placed face up. This card now belongs to the people who discarded a card. It's a shared card. If they didn't discard something, they can't use it. THIRD BET: Players bet. Each player can choose to discard one final card. A card is picked from the pile and placed face up. This card now belongs to the people who discarded a card. It's a shared card. If they didn't discard something, they can't use it. FOURTH BET: Players make a final bet. Cards are shown and the winner calculated with regular poker rules. --- With this game discarding a card allows you to possibly get something new and better; but that card is open for everyone to see. If you keep your cards your at a disadvantage but no one will know what you have. Let me know if you think this could be a valid type of poker game. I've already started the game and hopefully it will be complete soon and people can go against each other. | |

Sounds similar to Caribbean Poker which is everyone gets 1 face up, 2 face down (in any order) then there's betting, everyone gets the next face up, betting, another face up, betting, last face up then last betting round. | |

You may be shooting yourself in the foot by not doing real poker...
sounds like it could be fun, just gotta keep in mind what the competition is doing and what your goals are. | |

I didn't try it out with real people since I don't really play poker. I just want to code a game... Once I have the system fully working, I could write other styles of poker games since the system will already be almost all designed and just the rules will change.
Right now the game will only work with two players (the beta), but I'll make it work with up to 4 players later on. | |

But from what I have seen at work, it could be good, but it really look like a new variance of poker. | |

very interesting, you could use color chips to track who's on what card
ei: 1st green, put a green token on 1st card, everyone who discarded gets a green token 2st blue, put a blue token on 2st card, everyone who discarded gets a red token etc | |
