A friend and I have to make an oral presentation about a contemporary theme in Québec. We decided to talk about Québec's underground rave scene. Non-commercial mixing. Québec's avant-garde DJs vs Québec's commercial DJs. I'm searching right now articles and stuff about the history of mixing in the bilingual province, the creative artists, the different types of music and mixing mediums (I got plenty of info about that last one but you can send me anything anyway), and anything I forgot to mention. Any info/links/etc. would be super awesome!

Of course I'll name a few artists on [ rave.ca ] and make the teacher and students learn about the best canadian rave scene! :P
I'm still very new to the rave scene, so I absolutely want to learn more about it and not make a fool of myself saying wrong stuff about DJing in front of the class.
I'm feeling jet set radiooo!! right now..

In my opinion, you must look up for :
- Tiga (the whole story : Turbo, Afterhours, record shop (am I wrong?))
- 1993 raves in Quebec city (dunno for Montreal though, I know that there's some old-schoolers on this website that might help you)
- Preach (Guy from Levis that is now known internationally)
- Akufen and the micro-house scene
- Pheek and his label
- Acid AND Techno

I remember doing some little researchs on the subject last year, maybe I can find something for you.

Look for "Les nomades urbains"
That's some master thesis on the subject.
I'm feeling horny right now..

Nice! Thanks to both of you! I'll start gathering that stuff together and continue to search for more :D
I'm worried though my friend doesn't find much stuff. I've checked rapidly the net and it seems there's almost nothing, eheheh too underground! Or simply I'm bad at searching... Or both!
I've found some interesting articles but a lot of them can be read completely only if you pay... bummer. Information should be free!

Quebec bilingual? Quebe's French UNILINGUAL! Montreal might unofficially be bilingual but that's about it ; try speaking English a hundred miles out and you might get a nice "c'est quoi tu veux la tête carrée?". Oddly it seem shocking for anglophones to have that reaction because they use the almighty lingua franca but I wouldn't expect any better if I didn't speak German in Germany or Japanese in Japan, it's just basic respect.

Of course Quebec language protection is driven by who's in power, when nationalists are in power they have sufficient resources to have the law applied but when those only caring about money are in power, it's most likely the first department to have cuts. With status quo, Quebec is doomed to become like New Brunswick in term of language: having local language popularity contests. The same way Canada is "bilingual", I wonder if my family members barely speaking English would have appropriate living conditions in Alberta: Would they have their diagnosis properly explained to them? Emergency reception able to handle a serious case without useless delay? It's normal they'd have trouble speaking anything else than English in a English unilingual province but that bilingual country thing...

It wouldn't be a problem in a real bilingual province but that's just a myth. National identity and respect is all fine when the economy is well oiled but as soon as it slow down, it's just a luxury.

seriously, piss off with your fucking racist bullshit; despite what Quebecers "want" and what the Quebec govt. may say, Quebec is still a PROVINCE in the COUNTRY of Canada, and the COUNTRY of Canada is BILINGUAL.

You want to segregate people based on something as stupid as the language they speak, I suggest you make yourself a time machine and go back the Germany 1934; I think you'll find a lot of people as narrow-minded as you fucking idiots are.

i'm sorry that's the dumbest thing i've heard alllll day (and i have been listening to alex jones all morning !!!)

i have never understood the quebec bashers' obsession with showing that the language we speak here is somehow 'less french' than some other place...it's stupid to say that because it's obvious (even tho there are certain differences, which i assure you are pretty superficial all things considered) that what is spoken in quebec is some sort of french (whatever that means) if it wasn't the same how is it that i can watch movies from france and read comic books from belgium. You want to say that we speak 'Quebecois' here rather than french, fine, we don't give a fuck, because you don't speak our language and you don't want to. Let us define what we are, stay out of it cause we don't care what you think.

aller, baise ta mere salle connard

(is that french enough for you, dick smoker)
I'm feeling surly right now..

there's tons of journal, article, opinions, conversation about raves, how people see them live them here in quebec

just here on [ rave.ca ] i wrote Rave in the search thread box

and found this that could interest you, a conversation started on a article about rave

there's [ rave.ca ] for the montreal community, and i know there's another one more for quebec city, maybe search in both, compare them, learn their stories, check out what does people have found on the subject (yes, there is at least one thread a year about the rave story, maybe theur research could advance yours)
