i don't know i think i have enough w/ my algebra at university w/out having to start it up here..

by the way the wiki page you posted is a "original research" page containing poor or nonexistent references, citations etc.. i don't think i would based my thinking on this type of crap!

So yes, in a sense there is a 'mathematical language' that we invented, but they're just something to define and communicate interactions that already exist.

If we go all the way back to before humans existed, and a horse or some other animal was walking around...

The horse eats

it walks around another 10 minutes and then finds and eats

It's just eaten a total of

and not

despite the fact that math hasn't been defined yet, it's a constant that's being discovered and understood; the horse/animal has eaten 3+2=5 apples, and not 3+2=19 apples.

In the same way that gravity existed and we were under it's effects before Newton defined it.. he didn't invent gravity, he discovered it, and then worked out the math that explained it, he didn't invent anything.

Erm...no. Let me quote that for you : "This article MAY CONTAIN original research."

Now, I don't mean to pry or be a bitch here but if you misunderstood that simple phrase, I'm unsure as to the validity of your claims stating that the article contains poor or non-existant references and citations.

So, are you implying the Schwarzenberger and Ford & Peat quotes fabricated or altered ?

:/

ok well i was not talking about all that crap

So yes, in a sense there is a 'mathematical language'

i just jumped in the convo when i read that math doesn't have a language or mathematical language doesn't exist.

i just said something about that because i studied mathematical language as anyone who learn freaking algebra so yeah it sounded retarded..

all the other blablabla i don't even want to start there ha/

Ok but somehow I can't help but feel your reply and reaction is a reaction based on your own feelings and the fact that you seem to find the assumption that "mathematics is not a language" a bit insulting. I mean, you studied in this very field by choice, probably because it compels you, you feel drawn to it, involved in it and can't help but feel a bit insulted when someone speaks ill of it.

It's a valid emotional response but I can't help but feel your interpretation of the subject might be a bit biased since it is based on your personal beliefs and views.

That's a bit like saying "christianity is better than other religions because I've studied it and have been a christian follower long enough to know".

THAT SAID, it doesn't make your point any less VALID, mind you. I just find it to be a tad more emotional than factual.

Hopefully you don't jump at my throat, Betty. <:)

omg non pas du tout... that's not a subject i hold dear to my heart at all.. i mean it was a mandatory class bahaha...i'm a mass comm/film prod. major and business/marketing minor after sociology minor works..

i was not emotional at all i just thought it sounds retarded to say there is no math language.. like i said the rest i don't even care...

screwhead got way much more "emotional" saying i was lynzyn replacement.. i'm not even sure what's that implying.. the other girl i don't know her but i doubt she has the same life than mine, or anything...

oh.. maybe it's because she used to argue w/ screwhead.. oh well now i know better i'll just ignore each time it's quite unpleasant anyway so i'll just pass...

ok thank you :)

I should have added a smiley after that but didn't for some reason; Lynzyn would often jump into threads, not read anything but the last post or two, and then go on long diatribes about how much more knowledgeable on the subject she was than everyone else and how she could be the only 'right' person and everyone who didn't agree with her expert knowledge was stupid, and in the long run she was talking about something completely unrelated and obviously didn't know what the original discussion was, at which point she would just continue slamming everyone in the thread for not agreeing with her, despite the fact that she's the one that didn't read wtf was going on.

yeah i see your point but... the words we used to communicate with each other are also representations of the world around (and within) us. So all interpretations we make of the world, and communicate to others, are all essentialy forms of languages since math is code for patterns and words are code for what we interpret through our senses. oh fuck this, I'm just going to crash now ;)

And why the shittay neighbor! I'm an awesome neighbor! I always leave a freshly killed bird on your doorstep! Every morning!

math IS a language..

watch how easy it is for me to communicate through it...

Shut The Fuck Up.

y'see how i added all those letters together and formed words? addition + letters = communication.

furthermore, letters + subtraction = miscommunication.

in conclusion, shut + the + fuck = up

i iz m4th5 & 3ngl15h g3n1u5 XD

:p

(btw, sending a breakup text in shorthand text-speak, is pretty fuckin' weak. if that's the future of relationships, kill me now)
