You are all off base, Bliss was talking about his actual experience playing at Passeport to a bunch of goths back in the day and the attitude he received.
I know his post was longwinded, but reading all the words helps tremendously in understanding his rant

Bliss is a good guy. He's just very principled and consistant in his views on the artistry that is DJing. When ur up there, ur performing. I actually agree with his stances on leaving if he gets bullshit from management or clubbers or whatever. If all DJs acted like bliss, DJs would have a lot more bargaining power with club owners, promoters and management.
I'm feeling a message in a bottl right now..

Consequently, I understand his experience, probably because I had similar ones. Albeit from a patron point of view, but heh.

Still, the alternative/goth scene in Montreal IS alive and well, AFAIK.
I'm feeling complicated right now..

... and of course, 'cause a handful of club-goths like NIN & VNV, the entire montreal industrial scene, and everyone in it, is shit ... *eyes roll*

whatever.

i've seen MTL's industrial festivals grow from 80 ppl on one night, to 800 ppl a day for 4 nights, over the last 6 years... granted it's mostly out-of-towners that buy tix, but it's still pretty fuckin' impressive, imo.

any scene's general population will prefer the pop version of that style .. whether they dress dark or fucked or not, they're just stupid humans who want to hear their fav popular songs. yes, it sucks, but it's not unique to the goth scene. it is, unfortunately, part of every scene.
I'm feeling you up right now..

Hah, but I never meant you, or any of my Industrial-oriented friends, Nathan :)

Posers in every scene, meh.

Zimmer... Nope, but I know a few that would :p

Exactley,

Cya, my post wasn't intended to diss you in anyway, I'm sure you're a great dj, it was more a commentary on the Montreal goth scene.

I'm sure some of those people appreciate the mixing and the dj artform,

But for most of the goth cats here don't, for most of them you're just a jukebox and be careful if you don't comply.

I used to feel like I was going into battle every night at Passeport, every time I'd drop a new tune I'd literally get attacked in the dj booth (I once got punched in the back of the head for not playing a request).

So basically you're only a good dj when you play the same old shit and take requests, if you dont you're arrogant and an asshole

Its so dumb its mindboggling.
I'm feeling sunshine right now..

lol, yeah I Actually wasn't kidding with what I'd mentioned earlier; it was either the same night that Blade or John Carpenter's Vampires had opened.. me and my gf went to The Sphinx after catching it, and from around midnight until 1:30am it was Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion on repeat, and the dancefloor emptied off when someone came and started putting on other songs..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

Oh lord, Sisters Of Mercy lol...you're giving me flaskback nightmares

Personally I used to play the Lucretia track, its the only track I can stand by those guys, its got a wicked break on that one, Evil Nine even sampled it on one of their tracks :)

Yeah that's one of my favorites.. I love that they use a drum machine and not a drummer, so you can mix it in with other similar-speed stuff..
