A Little Help Here?

I am going to be staying in Granby Quebec and have been trying desperately to contact any sort of promoter in the Montreal area...which is a task that seems to need super hero like skills.
I have emailed just about every one I could find (in both google translated French as well as English), and while in the states people will at least have the social graces to tell you 'No'
IS there something I'm doing wrong here? Because I'd honestly rather be given a negative answer and have the promoter tell me they hate my music...at least then it'd be feedback.
I'm a nationally touring Dj, and normally setting up a booking is as simple as contacting the promoter and letting them know I am in the area. I figured since I was going to be there (with travel already paid and lodging arranged) I could do a set or so for my new friends and fans in the area. The patrons of the local alternative/gothic scene has received me wonderfully, your city really does have a great alternative scene.

So what is the key to making contact?
I've worked with some of the biggest names in the international EDM industry and I honestly don't understand why icons like Infected Mushroom, Paul Van Dyke, Arman Van Burren, Perish, Keoki, and etc communicate with me on a personal basis yet I can't make a single bit of headway with any one no matter what I try.
Is everything I've been told true and promoters (the patrons as I've said have been unbelievably helpful, understanding, and sweet) here are treating me in this manner because I am from the USA? Because I've spent weeks defending against that very same stereotype...and really don't want to think that other Electronic scenes are really that discriminatory or rude. My family has lived in Canada since before either country formally existed. Plus where I am born has utterly no baring on my merit as a performer.

Anyway here's links to download my mix for free for any one that's interested:
Mega Upload:
IsoHunt Torrent:
[ isohunt.com ]

Sorry this turned into a bit of a rant...
This is unbelievably frustrating.

Negate the dislike of Americans comment
Was something I had a large amount of people tell me would be a VERY big issue.
I've actually found out that a lot of it was due to them not regularly checking their social networking pages & email. The ones I have finally been able to reach have been very nice & professional :)

I'm sure you can all understand a dislike for stereotypes...especially given that documentary or whatever I've been hearing about.

first of all: hi!

then:

welcome to montreal, the land where most promoters only book the same dj's over and over again!

there are some promoters that are willing to take risks, and i respect and love them alot for that.

being american will not change anything, well, i hope so, if a promoter stops at you being from the us, then that person should not be promoter.

one thing i can say to you, go to the events that fits your genre, and talk to the promoters directly, its too easy for them to pass on an email, but when your in thier face, its a different story.

i dont know any promoters in your style (which is industrial right?), but im pretty sure some people on here could help!

we have the chance in the underground rave scene (electro/harcore) to have a few really good promoters, but i have yet to see industrial in a rave, most of them (indus events) are held in clubs or special events!

ps: some people on here are complete douche, so if someone starts insulting you for no reasons, dont take it personally, we arent all like that.

welcome again!
I'm feeling hardcore right now..

Well hi yourself :)
Thanks.
The only problem with casing events is that I'm not going to be there forever. I'm going back to the states after a little over 2 weeks...so this is kind of a limited time chance. As a promoter I'd jump on being able to have an international name for...well basically FREE for events. Especially when you consider my fire and metal grinding performances. But I'm not going to be there long enough to not only track down the parties, let alone said promoters.
Been trying to make contact with the club [ events...com ] impossible.

In all honesty the patrons of the scenes are wonderful, but I am getting the worst impression of the promoters...and I was looking forwards to this trip for a REALLY long time...

My style is actually 'Psychedelic Goth' (a style I kind of made up) so I fit into a variety - EBM, Industrial, Psy Trance, Hardstyle, Goth
Both the gothic and rave scenes have been loving it, have gotten HUGE responses from people local to Montreal...and they're actually trying to contact promoters as well so they can see me perform...

And as for booking the same acts over and over - they do that hear too...the companies that do that just never actually go anywhere but out of business after a couple of years.

I'M guessing most party's within those dates are already booked. You might be able to sneek yourself onto the top or tail end of an event, but dont count on making a lot (or any) money.

Since you'll be in the area you might want to check out PSYMIND the 21st of nov. [ www.rave.ca ]
Get in touch with Adam at TRANSPLANTS, he might be able to put you on standby in case one of his dj's doesn't show.

good luck

Yeah that was the first rave I found out about.
Been trying to contact them for over a month in both English and French, I think I'm going to start with the phone calls this week...I haven't gotten this far by being easy to ignore.
I have realized that I run my production company very differently from how things are done in Montreal. Even if I can't book a performer I always make sure to reply to their messages, in many a case I've picked up amazing people who played later events and have remained with my company ever since. I own my own production company and have been throwing events for a little over 2 years and now manage a team of 14 performers, have my own professional (high end) sound/DJ/VJ equipment, and al looking to buy my own venue. There's more info and a listing of clickable links on my profile. I've been involved in 36 events (that I can remember) in that time. I've been DJing for about a year now, I started out knowing nothing and in 6 months I was performing nationally at headliner level. Every event I have personally thrown has been hailed as some of the most cutting edge EDM entertainment in the country. My last event: BloodFeast was promoted nationally and drew patrons from LA all the way to Cleveland Ohio.
Even given my accomplishments and rapid advancements I have always made a point to treat other performers and promoters with respect. We're all supposed to be working together towards the same goal: A Killer Scene
....right??

Another vacation turned into work
LOL
If I didn't love performing so much I don't know what I'd do with myself

-Cy

PS- I really have to compliment your scene itself. While the promoters may be difficult, you ugys are really nice. I don't know if you use P.L.U.R. but you guys really do have the 'spirit' down to an art. This is actually the most helpful and supportive scene I've come across, and that's saying a lot :)

To be fair, I don't think the Industrial/EBM guys lurk around much here. And their events aren't advertised much here either.

If you can find your way to Montreal during your time here, I'd suggest checking out:

Passeport: [ www.barpasseport.com ]
Saphir: [ www.saphirbar.com ] (English version nowhere to be found?!)
Katacombes: [ www.myspace.com ]

Oh, and as far as promoters go, here's a name that pops to mind:
... Main promoter for Kinetik. v3.0 coming next May.

Hope that helps, I'll add some more later if I can.

Hahahahaha <3 Anto!

Dj Cy-Fi like Masa just said, for raves here your type of music doesn't really suit most, From what I have seen in 2 years of traveling to Mtl is that musically speaking the scene consists of different types of hardcore and Electro mainly.

I am from Ottawa, I'm currently downloading your mix to give it a listen, and see what my boss thinks. He's a huge fan of Industrial stuff, and if he's not interested I know quite a few people in Ottawa's industrial scene that are always looking, I'll pass on your mix to them, they'd most likely book you in the coming months. Up here in Cananda it's not only the land where most promoters book the same dj's but also the land of everything is done by the books, Parties are booked months in advance along with the dj's. So finding a gig just like that is going to be next to impossible.

Good Luck to you and hopefully I'll be in contact with some information for gigs in the near future.
I'm feeling head pain right now..

This.

And you have to understand that the industrial/ebm '' scene '' is very, very small. To the best of my knowledge, industrial Djs almost never got rave gigs. It's all about the bar scene, and there arent many people there. We are talkin about 40 people nights at small underground bars, in the middle of the week. At Passport it's on wednesdays, the dancefloor of that place is of the same size as my bathroom. lol

I dont want to ruin your dream of playing in a rave in montreal during the 2 weeks you'll be here, but if i were you i woulndt exactly be very hopefull about it. Read : it wont happen. lol Our rave partys are all booked to death months in advance usually.

Try to find the promoters of the industrial/ebm/goth bar night Masa mentioned, call them, write them a letter i dont know. Maybe i'm wrong but i think that you're wasting your time contacting rave people, especially if you're here only for a 2 weeks time window.
I'm feeling like a superhero right now..
