Man, I hate it when people make requests, but it happens to me during fucking live sets, and a few times in the Mile End area especially we had douchebags show up at a breakcore party and start requesting Michael Jackson or Prince over and over again, and meaning it. They'd say they want to dance, and I'd go "well join the other people dancing" (and yeah, say what you will about breakcore but people were dancing) but the douchebags kept coming back, and it was no joke, they must have really thought we were just using iTunes. Sometimes people fucking come up to you with their iPod or Zune or whatever shit and they say they have to hear some Leonard Cohen song right now, which is fucked, or that they need everyone to hear the whiny indie anthem they've been listening to all day. Plus there's a certain somebody who's come to a bunch of my parties and keeps thinking that we really want it to become her personal dancemix night with leotards and irony in spades.

Still Bliss, should have gone for the brown ring if you ask me, everyone knows celebs do anal.
I'm feeling mighty frisky right now..

now that music is easy to download or to find there's more and more requests.
and dj's gonna have to deal with it.
its all about the attitude.
if a moron come at the booth and scream SLAYER from the top of his stupid lungs i share any djs frustrations, believe me ;)
otherwise it can be relevant sometimes.
for a liveset part..... yes its definitely annoying...

the best is ppl who come up to you w/ their iPod and say "i've got all sorts of great tunes on here, can you plug it into your mixer and play some?" ...uh, no.

the worst was at a fucking halloween party.. 4-5 tracks into a DnB set a girl comes up and says (in super-whiny spoiled jap voice) "Listen, I know you like this stuff, but like, why don't you play some good music that, like, people actually listen to, like, some Beyonce!"
I'm feeling your norks right now..

I find that proper preparation and a good knowledge of the place and crowd helps a lot to avoid request situations

Its often when you start playing stuff that is really "pas rapport" that people start freaking out en masse and you're in trouble

Generally guys who come up and scream at me, I just tell them to not do that shit, its disrepectful

I then explain to him I brought this type of music because thats what the event is about, and you'd be surprised how many people are actually understanding of my perpespective and leave me alone after

I never "envoies chier" people though, I just try to reason with them and get out of it without having to play anything I don't want to play ;)
I'm feeling like the good guy right now..

that's half true actually.
it depend where you play and what kind of crowd you have.

like metalheads and hip hop crowd have tendencies to request their songs once you start flirting with the style they like.
but all about house and techno ( at large) dont requests that much and its pretty new from them ( internet syndrome as i said before).

Yeah you're probably right, I don't have enough experience with metal crowds, hip hop crowds I can't stand anymore. The only hip hop I play nowadays is stuff for the breakers. I remember at Passeport, the goths were really fucking annoying

& People with ipods are the worst lol..."but but I got here, just plug it in..."

I just generally just say yes, take the ipod and hide it somewhere and then tell the guy someone must have stolen it off the table.

I then watch the guy freak out for about twenty minutes before magically finding the ipod again. Usually they take it back after lol...

it has alot to do with the promoter and what kind of party it is...Ok WMC Electronic music festival in Miami so what didn't she understand about that?

And if i am hired to play house for a club or a party and some fuckin shmuk comes to ask me for hip hop i will laught at them and keep mixin in other words dude when u came to the party did u not see the flyer or promo that this party has to do with dj's playing house and such.....So why the fuck r u gonna ask me for hip hop?

Now if it was a bar that plays all kinds of music all the time well then the dj has to understand that and bring alot of shit to please the crowd.

Now it seems to me that is was a hotle a spacial event for ELECTRONIC MUSIC did she not know that when she went to Miami or did she just do it cause oh look i am PAris Hilton and i can do what i want..When she got shot down she got pissed and did what she did...Plain and simple!
I'm feeling gohabsgo right now..
