Panasonic's RP-HJE900 is the first pair of headphones on the market to use Zirconia, a material many times stronger than conventionally used aluminum or plastic. It also makes for less resonance than those materials and creates better, audiophile-grade sound reproduction. The headphones feature 12.5mm drivers and have a frequency response of 6Hz to 26Hz covering an incredibly wide range of sound. And because Zirconia is a material that could very well last a lifetime, the wires are removable and can be replaced if they ever fray. Available May. Link: $230

That's kinda cool! If you could get custom-molded sheaths for it to fit your ear perfectly, these could be awesome for mixing!

zirconia , get serious , [ en.wikipedia.org ]

its used for the piezo element, spread spectrum to 360deg, can you correct the frequency range number

we want to be shure you wrote 6hz to 26Khz and not passing that for what could be 600hz to 2.6Khz
Update » cutterhead wrote on Sat Jan 10, 2009 @ 5:27pm
and its not the frist thing i see that claim it can endure a lifetime of abuse, but this, ha im sorry but with the number of electronics i make cross river styxx everyear, this seems like some fake marketing over some bling and shine.

i could beleive they have 6hz to 26khz bandwith, but virtually indestructible wires i doupt.

remember that HDMI 700$ cable hoax ? my nose tell me its an other of thoses .

Update » cutterhead wrote on Sat Jan 10, 2009 @ 5:35pm
okay so it was 6hz to 26khz, but for calling the material zirconia, its only hotter baked plastic, that would have the similarity of porcelin.

and i seriously think they claimed they are indestructible because you can change the wire , but that doesnt stop it from bein destroyed without the replacement .

my 2 cents

oh 6hz is absolutely fesable, especially if its active material instead of passive speakers. (active are cheaper to manufacture too.)

i just think they overwent whith that understructible everything. im shure i can find a thousand way to make that a marketing lie. (like remember when theyu pretended a computer could last 100 year)

Doesn't a 6hz sound need a few feat to deploy itself (one full cycle)?

And who needs earphones with a feq. response only dogs and cats can here?

With mp3's, theres nothing above 16khz anyways.

actually the high end earbuds aren't bad, but they cost the same as a good pair of normal headphones anyway.

I find eardbuds to be very uncomfortable. And even with the rubber earpieces, they always end up poping out of my ears.
Quality earbuds can sound pretty sweet though...

gamos, depends how much you pay for em...

earbudz... comfort-wise... every ear is different so getting them to be comfy for every-one is nearly impossible... but i did find the high end shure earbuds to be quite comfy.

6hz... yeah obviously, you cant hear it (and i dont think dogs and cats do either) but i do have a tendency to think that if the membrane can emit something as low as 6hz, once its at 20 or 40hz it'll get somewhat more flat than if it just starts at 20hz... then again if I really wanna know what the curve is like I can look for the frequency response curve itself... which is usually obtainable

what do you think?
I'm feeling lovely right now..

The thing with the ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies is that sure, we can't hear them, but they still have an effect.. Something is still vibrating, and it will affect other things that are vibrating and reflecting off of it..

Just because you're not hearing those frequencies doesn't mean that they aren't changing the frequencies that you ARE hearing and making/generating more harmonics to have a fuller sound.

as i remember if its active sound you dont need the space to cast the sound, its all there in audio message.

i couldnt affort not having the low end and the top end, most time the top end gets removed it looses all dinamics, while the other feel like it lack presence and level (not trying to get the closest to 0hz that is).

For you to hear something below 20hz, there would have to be something in the music bellow 20hz.
I'm no expert on mastering but from what i have seen, they cut below 20hz... Free's up space to make the mix louder.
The last thing you want are inaudible frequencies triggering your compressor.
I'm feeling love right now..
