yeah, for me that's really one of the biggest apeals..

I mean, it really doesn't take much to make people laugh of feel sad/sympathetic/happy.. But it takes a LOT to make people scared.. Comedies/romantic movies and action movies are just so.. easy! Throw in 100 guns and some explosions, maybe a couple of car chases, and you get people pumped up.. Have someone named "Gaylord Focker" in your movie and it's 'comedy genious'..

But scaring people requires a lot more digging into people's subconcious.. Anyone can throw up a monster or some girl walking weird onto a screen, but no everyone can make it fit naturally into a story and couple it with the right sound effects, music, lighting, etc.. to make it really freak you the fuck out..

Horror, also, despite having established subgenres/movie types, always have to try and be very original.. There are so many different types of vampires, werewolves, slashers, zombies.. Some scary and well done, others silly and cheezy with really bad effects.. But despite all of them being some derivative of a stereotyp and a canned plot (people go party, something bad happens and kills them, one survives, PLOT TWIST ENDING!), they tend to be so much more varied than 'Guy loves girl, guy is too shy to tell her, guy spend an hour and a half being an assclown to win her love, turns out she always loved him, the end'

You haven't seen the right ones :P Some are really good..

The first two Hellraiser movies are WAY deeper than most people can imagine, and they've got awesome effects/visuals/performances to back it up..

Candyman also.. Great story, extremely thick atmosphere.. the combination of everything; story, music, locations, just all works together perfectly..

that one I put up here recently, Let The Right One In.. That was a hell of a movie! I'm gonna have to go and say that that was the best movie of 2008..

Some of the ridiculous horror movies are great, too.. Like this really rare one I've got, The Abomination.. This guy's mom coughs up a tumour, and the tumour mind-controlls her son into spreading it around because it's some weird monster... Totally ridiculous, horrible acting, bad effects... But it's just such an awesome movie it really boggles the mind!

Hahah yeah I've seen those (not the abomination) and I agree, they're good horror movies, I'm just saying in general, I'm usually disappointed.
This reminds me of when I watched the hills have eyes and laughed uncontrollably during the whole movie..
I'm feeling gimme crackpipe right now..

hehe best part about The Hills Have Eyes was the effects.. I found some of the stuff was really cool.. But the story was really nothing special..

I totally need to have a horror movie marathon or something one weekend. That would be so awesome. I've got TONS ^_^

da perfect marathon movie machine :D
did u tag all your files? all this meta data would be fun to search! a nice way would be to have all the IMDB page fetched and indexed in your xbox so you can search for actor keyword years etc

XBMC has all that supported.. anything I can find the tag for is tagged and has the poster/dvd cover for it.. I can get the plot synopsis, see the cast and click on an actor to see all other movies with them that I have on the drive.. same with TV serries and music videos! So far the only problem I've got are some really low-budget movies, rare stuff from the 80s or asian movies that I can't always find the info for.

hey Fred, you like zombie flicks, have you seen Cemetery Man? It's not a straight up zombie movie but it's pretty cool. In that genre I also love Dead Alive (aka Braindead), classic; and Shaun Of the Dead. But those aren't really 'serious' horror movies...
I'm feeling you up right now..
