Apr1zm: c'est vraie. entre 2001 et 2004 gabber etait LE style de hardcore. Mais, en consequence, on s'est tous tanner du gabber. Et la, ca reviens en force avec le hardstyle ainsi.

Go figure :P

I wouldn't consider Drop Bass gabber, though some of the releases were, and others were close. Drop Bass tended to be a little faster, typical hardcore. Also older. Then again, the origins of gabber are foggy and dubious.

Mutante or Fishead might be able to shed a little more light... .. .
I'm feeling you up right now..

As for gabber, I've always distanced myself from that particular label... I've always considered what I play to be hardcore... at a certain point people started calling it breakcore...

totally agree with that last statement Fish.

detailing sub-genres gets pretty anal. we play hardcore, that's it.

Otherwise it's "yeah, i play terrorcore, speedcore, oldschool hardcore, breakcore, gabber, darkcore, doomcore, hardtek, hardtech, hardfloor, noisecore, industrial, rhythmic noise, drill n' bass, and hard d'n'b. Just write all that on the flyer "

jebus, just stick with hardcore...or allcore :P

now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Lenny Dee now mainly plays techno-hardtechno with hardcore influences. He'll be playing at Dagobert on Jan 8th 2009 in Qc City if someone's interested.

H2OH is a dead label and MOH isn't doing really good either. There are a lot of new labels releasing cool melodic stuff and the average speed of the genre is slowly rising, going back to its 170-180 bpm Old School Gabber roots.

Cheers Melodie,

Ironically speed garage was described as "bassline house" back in the day

I think the main thing is too be educated,

For example dnb wouldn't exist without breakbeat, breakbeat wouldn't exist without funk and hip hop,

I remember all these "ignorant" djs who would come to me and tell me this "cliche" is "breaks" and this "cliche" is "dnb" and bla bla bla...they all ended up wrong

If you know your history, its easy to see how things evolved and how they are connected,

All music is influenced by something previous
