No, a virus is a program that self-replicates without knowledge, but doesn't necesarily mean that it wasn't run by the end-user.. The first viruses pre-date things like Windows Autorun.. They would have to be either run by the user (usually thinking it was another program, or when they ran an infected program) or it would be in the boot-sector of a floppy and would try to infect a hard-drive or any other boot sectors that it would find.

A virus CAN be a trojan, that's how they were spread initially. Not all viruses are trojans, though, obviously.
