audacity!

but you have to know that recording will store the data in your ram (usually) and hardware cache, and recording with a computer makes it in .wav, so it really depend on who much your computer can handle, not really the program you use!

untill you save it that is!

that why i just save and re-start the recording between sets!

i don't know about you, but durring a party, it's hard to just "cut" the music 12 times between each Dj to "restart" recordings. it's so much less work to just cut the sets up afterwards..

so yeah, i'm looking for a program that actually convert's it in realtime to MP3 so that the RAM usage is much less.. :)

thx

well... the ghetto option is to get an old Hi-Fi VHS recorder - and use the stereo input on that... it'll take about 8-hours of audio and you can transfer and chop it up later... it's not ideal, but it's cheap and effective... hell, set up your computer to record, and run the VHS as a back-up in case the recording fails.

lol.. yeah, fish, that's ghetto.. i have a laptop and an RCA cable, all i need is software to record with.

Deadfunk: doesn't it take like at least 2 minutes to "Save as" a file in realtime ?

not really, on my computer it takes like 30 seconds for a 1 hour wav file, just save it it in wav, not in mp3, in mp3 it takes alot more time.

i save it in wave then when im at home i compress it, eq it, limit it, then make an mp3, so of the dj doesnt control his gains and eq's, its way less obvious once you did the little mastering, and its as loud as it can be.

i dont think vhs is getto, its proven reliability, the computer can crash 100times compare to a slick vhs dump. diy that works.

yes , EP ->8 hours

and if you buy commercial "1 month" recorder, the one that use a single 8 hours copy and u can write one month on em.

probably your vhs doesnt have enough head : ie cheap head, 4 head vhs have 2 for sp , 2 for ep...

Use as PC backup devices

Devices have also been invented which directly connect a personal computer to VHS tape recorders for use as a data backup device. Most notable of these devices was ArVid, widely used in Russia and CIS states. Also available in the United States were similar systems manufactured by Corvus, Videotrax, and Alpha Microsystems. Also available was Backer from Danmere Ltd. of England. Also HP develops a backup system that uses VHS tapes and stores 5 GB in every tape.

there is another camcorder out there that takes these T-120 min and record 24 to 48 hours of uninterruptible video/sound of that same t-120 you would use to tape sindfield

the problem is the longer you do per shot the less quality/depth you get ... much like a 96kpbs
mp3...

but really for dj mix the standard imo is a vhs copy, all my dj friends that wanted to export their mix and didnt have money for a computer , they made a vhs, they knew anywhere they go they could have their 8 hours ... or 2, 4 ,8 sets made and want to mixdown... good reference
too when you prepare a set and its very long, you dump it on tape, then fall asleep listening to it again... then repeating the process upon waking up...

I know promoters that used that to record their events back in the day... especially the outdoor festivals... 6 VHS tapes to cover the main stage for a 3-day festival... 'cause it's impossible to catch everything.

its a shame they didnt push the last models of vhs tape recorder like in the 90s.. their is no level,
most of them dont even have knobs even less sliders like it used too, most of what i see now arent
even stereo. the sound quality shifted from one end of the standard to an other.

i learned using my vhs... shout out big "duct tape" reels.

+ the whole "getting a vj for free" is awsome.
