Line-out of your mixer into a computer, set the recording volume low in Windows, open up/configure Audacity (free download), test it out and get recording!
I'm feeling older right now..

you can use Sound Forge too...(or Cubase?)

like fred said, line out of the mixer to line-in on the 'puter (you'll probably need adapters or a wire for: RCA left/right >to> 1/8 of an inch stereo jack)...make sure the VU meter ain't in the red...and press record :P (and don't fuck up your mix lol)
I'm feeling you up right now..

sound blaster wave . rigged on an old p1 with a sb-16 for sound card. (ONLY ONE CARD! just so you
cant double mike or something) that will give you a taste of cheap reality 15 y ago.

then when you will have your laught, youll get audacity, soundforge or recycle, or

you will find about 2-3 additionnal sound card for your computer depending your beserk need
of miking everything, then have one or two of them running reaktor in cubase so you can have
whatever effect on the fly and good meter for cue & recording.

anythings fail, use your vhs. record your mix, then export to anyone that has a computer and a vhs.
(this is for 8 hours mix)

you can get winscope (use sound card level in oscilloscope /by intensity levels) or use reaktor's scope. it kicks ass.

i sometimes use reactor inputs to replace my analog scope when its stored away (like when!) or when im too lazy getting the probe (last one is more what happens usualy)

scoping will let you see exactly how much of the bandwith your saturating and you will have a live cue on what has to be done to attain normal levels . ie comparing thoses traces with other
good quality commercial recordings.

Just get an external interface if you plan to mic several things.

hey , i love that type of setup, for one , i can say my power supply is used to his max spec.

personnaly i hate reencoding from modules like that, until they get local space *hd included*

i prefer running cards internally overuse of the firewireport for second. and firewire use

+25% to 100% processor time, whereas when you use the local bus times are faster, when you want to
local dump to a harddrive and do lots of outside the computer/inside the computer manipulation.

but this is personnal choice.

firewire interfaces use a lot of cpu? not in my experience. Multitrack recording is hardest on the disk drive.

im saying its limited to firewire processing time were as local bus usage is multiplexed on the local bus.
Update » cutterhead wrote on Fri Dec 12, 2008 @ 1:53pm
since 95 i multiple local sound card, that have bidirectionnal transfers, and manually set the dma channels and irq so they can all work at the same time.

call it what ever , your using firewire or usb bandwidth ill never match the local pci buss speeds that are 100x faster.

on top of that its multiplexed = mean you can have more than one matching that speed, meanwhile the firewire is still idleing the bandwith maxspec.
